Yes, you guessed right. Thanks for the fast answer. I had a bad flash trying to flash the Notebook with flashrom in Ubuntu.

I tried this already with a 4Gb USB-Stick and a CD. But didn't work. The Num/Caps Lock leds just blink 5 times (about 1 sec between each) and then nothing happens. Fan is working and the HDD led light blinks amber.

I looked for led Error codes on the website of hp and saw that 5 blinks mean General Systemboard failure.. What can I do now? Is the Board broken?

I can confirm the method works on a DV9000 (I did one for my dad) and yes BIOS recovery works with (Win + B). At the time of doing this, quite a few years ago, I was following instructions on another website based on BIOS recovery for the DV6000 series, so I guess they are the same as most HP are. I suspect you are doing something wrong in sequence, Iknow for sure BIOS recovery is possible for the DV9000 model. Also, I used USB Floppy back when I did it.

blinking caps and num is a error code for hardware failure and not necessarily BIOS corruption!
i had a HP laptop that died on me :mad2: with the same blinking lights.

Yes you are probably right. But i still hope it is a bios failure, tried it now with an old 128 mb Mp3player and a Memory Card (256mb) ... but nothing changed
Are only USB-Sticks working? What is the notebook expected to do when starting to reflash the bios?

If the systemboard is damaged, how can i find out what is damaged?

    i don't know...but it's for 2008 and late notebooks

mmmm fo auth. bios fail there's a trick

The BIOS authentication error (Blink code 6) is extremely rare. It is the result of a discrepancy between the BIOS and the hardware that is installed on the computer. This error occurs when the BIOS cannot authenticate signatures from the hardware on the system. The purpose of the BIOS authentication is to be sure that no one has tampered with the BIOS on the computer.
If a BIOS authentication failure occurs, the computer automatically performs a BIOS recovery. If the computer does not automatically recover the BIOS, manually perform a BIOS recovery. To manually perform a BIOS recovery, press all four arrow keys at the same time to cause the BIOS to go to the EFI partition to find and recover the current BIOS.

I tried it also with usb floppy drive yesterday but nothing worked. After a call to HP service they told me that the problem is the graphic card and they want to change motherboard  !! Is it possible bios update causes a burned GPU? Or i should keep trying it to recover the bios?

That is good offer. I suggest you just change the motherboard. I'm honestly believe it is not worth it to continue trying to recover the BIOS at this point.

I know somebody that repairs notebooks. The most damaged ATM are HP notebooks (DV and TX series) ...all have problems with the GPU. A friend of mine also, suddenly black screen and nothing....HP knows that they have sold crappy GPU's

Sometimes you just need to try and try the "Press power + Win-B" procedure several times before you actually get the right timing to trigger it !
This has happened to me and my HP pavillion dv5 1120el in the last 2-3 hours and I was thinking my bad flash had killed even the EFI built-in recovery mechanism.

But now I found a way which triggers it every time:

    1. remove battery
    2. remove power adapter
    3. insert USB pendrive with correctly named xxxx.BIN files
    4. hold Win+B
    5. plug-in power adapter
    6. while holding Win-B hold down Power button...it boots and after a few seconds it goes off again
    7. now press simultaneously power + win + B and it reboots with a BEEP
    8. several beeps indicate the recovery is actually happening...then it turns off.
    9. restart normally and enjoy your reborn baby ;-)

    Hope this helps !
    Have a nice day.

    Hello,

does anybody knows the Keyboard Combination for the Lenovo Ideapad S10-3S to go into the BIOS Recovery
Mode ? I try all here posted Combinations, but nothing happens. No Booting from my external USB Drive with
the Crisis Recovery Disk Image (no Access ->no LED Blinking on my DISK Drive). No Booting from my USB Stick.

    Thank you very much !

    @kizwan

I try this again but same problem. No blinking /access of the USB Stick. I try with and without
batterie. I think, that the S10-3S used an other "Hotkey" Combination to initiate the start of the
    BIOS Recovery process !

If it works on S10-3t, it should work on S10-3S too since both share the same platform. How long did you wait (after triggering the BIOS recovery, until you turn it off)?

    @kizwan

I put out the Battery, plug off the Power Supply and press the Switch on/off button 60Seconds.
After this, i try the Recovery process:

    1. Put in USB Floppy Drive
    2. Hold FN+R
    3. plug in Power Supply (still holding FN+R)
    4. Press the Power on/off Button
    5. look at the Floppy Drive LED to check the access to that, but the LED still dark(off), so
no access to the Floppy :-( ! I addition, i try the same with USB-Stick and SD-Card.

i try this Procedure with and without Battery ! All failed :-( !

    Can you answer my question:-
Make sure the USB flash drive is no more than 2GB.

What I means by "after triggering the BIOS recovery" is starting the moment you release the hotkey.
