@f23948 This thread is not about .NET Core updates feel free to start new thread in Windows 7 forum, or post in the general updates thread https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/windows-7-hotfix-repository.19461/page-539
As we saw in October, there is no IE11 Cumulative Security Update this month. Looks like it's slowly running out of steam, and they can't wait to kick it to the curb for good.
I don't think they will stop support until 2023,maybe the will slow down the patch process because of the announcement of end support for Teams and Office 365
Hi snofte, First, in Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Windows\winsxs\Temp\PendingRenames and tell me how many files are in this folder. Ideally there should be none. If there are lots of files in the PendingRenames folder, we will deal with that later. NEVER delete any files in the PendingRenames folder or you will damage your Windows installation and you might even brick Windows. Running SFC /scannow may have caused thousands of files to be put into the PendingRenames folder. Again, we will deal with that later. Next, in Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Windows\Logs\CBS. You will have to give yourself Administrator permissions in order to get into the CBS folder. Are there lots of files in the CBS folder? In particular, are there lots of really large .CAB files in the CBS folder which are 2GB in size? If so, this is the cause of your sudden slow boot problem. This is a Windows bug. Specifically, the .CAB files in this folder actually are ZIP files. The built-in ZIP utility in Windows 7 can't create ZIP files which are larger than 2GB. The result is that Windows, when booting, tries to create new CAB files, yet that fails once the new CAB file reaches 2GB in size, and then the process repeats. If this is indeed your issue, the solution is simple. Make sure that your computer has been booted and displaying the desktop for at least 10 minutes. Then navigate to the CBS folder, highlight all of the files in the CBS folder, and delete them. Don't worry if one or two files can't be deleted because you get an error message that those files are in use. The point is that at least all of the CAB files should have gotten deleted. Once this is done, reboot your computer. After Windows has been running for 10 minutes, go back into the CBS folder. You should see just a few files, and the size of each file should be really small, around to up to 20,000 KB in size. Best regards, GoneToPlaid
Worked perfectly - thank you! This month (2020-12) there was no "Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 4.8 for Windows 7" - right?
Thankyou very much ! Excited, maybe this could solve my problem ! Checked windows. No winsis there, but a winsxs. This one contains a HUGE amount of entries, first a big lot of "amd64........", then another big lot of "msil_microsoft_vsa......", then another lot of "wow64_microsoft_windows_ie.....", and finally another big lot of "x86_microsoft_windows_mlang_resources...." No other entries. In windows/logs/CBS, I find only one cbs.log, and also "CHS-persist20201201....cab." 4kb Nothing else. What else should I try or fix next do you think ? regards snofte
@abbodi1406 @Enthousiast hi, two questions. The first: I look and I see that I do not have the November updates installed (I think I installed them manually, since I have not been able to install the updates in a normal way with WU for a while) I should install them manually (or update my bypass, I think I have version 3 or 4) before installing December. And the second: the December update only got me the update rollup without the stack update. I should manually install the stack update even though it didn't show up to me in WU. thank you
