When I'm back home I'll exchange the SLIC of my old f-mod.... I still don't know what's the problem with that compal series bioses....
No, that's not that easy! You need a complete new MARKER (0xB6) signed by OA2.1 specifications. For ASUS there is still no marker 2.1 available to the public You cannot just edit the version bytes....
00raq00, using recovery bios procedure, with your mod bios the laptop don´t finish the flash, don´t turn off as normal procedure. So still waiting for Yen to say something about new mod. Thx for you help. Best Regards
You cannot just exchange the marker version bytes! The entire marker data 0xB6 is signed by OA2.1, that's a different encrypting algorithm!
Yen, it's a GO.Recovery method from old jfl92118F mod to this new one. Vista is activated, with leonovo cert. slicdump 1.05 gives me slic2.1 on bios... now I will install windows 7 and try activation. Thanks for your help. I will post results in 2 hours. Thx Best regards
Sorry if I repeat some newbie questions, but I have a few concerns before I try to upgrade my bios to SLIC 2.1. Is it absolutely necessary to use a USB floppy or can I just use a DOS bootable usb stick? Also, using phlash 16 the command would be "phlash16 JFL92118F21.WPH /x /mode=3 /bbl" correct? Thanks for your help.
ocho, ifl90 its a little bit tricky...do you have already slic2.0 in bios??? do you have used slic2.o mod F from Yen? If you already have Mod F installed I will say to use recovery method for upgrade to slic2.1. this one I know that is secure. Thx
Thanks for the quick response LordViking. I actually just have the official 1.18 firmware installed as of now, not modded at all. I'm not sure if it's SLIC 2.0, I have to run right now but I'll check when I get home. I'm also going to do more research before I do anything, any recommended threads? Also, where can I find a link to the recovery tool? The one in the first post is a 404. Thanks for any help.
Hey, thanks for your help lordviking, but I think I'm just going to use a loader. I thought it would be as simple as upgrading the bios using phlash16. As a laymen I would rather just play it safe
Hi all! Glad to see this thread alive with already done SLIC 2.1 mod by Yen (once again). This time I don't have USB Floppy, so I really interested in conventional working flashing method. Yesterday I did some experiments with old 512MB flash drive, without success. I can't start crisis proc from flash even with bootsector from crisis floppy image. Seems crisis startup code, activated by Fn+B, is seeking only for FDD by hardware ID and give him start. Also I can't make flash drive recognized as FDD in system. No way. I know about some flashdisk with hardware or software switch, that can make it native USB HDD/FDD/CD, but I don't have one. So I want to found a way to flash with standart proc, with bootable flash etc. I don't really understand why we have so much trouble with flashing Compal notebook. Compal is one of the largest ODM, many HP notebooks are Compal, f.e. and flashing procedure for HP and other phoenix bios owners does not seems very problematic. I can flash original bios without any problem but modded will kill bios. If anybody have any idea or experience, please share.
