Covid infections at all-time high in England, ONS data reveals
One in 13 people thought to have had Covid in week ending 26 March, based on random swabs

The previous high was between Christmas and New Year’s Eve 2021, when one in 15 people were estimated to have Covid.

    Nicola Davis Science correspondent

Coronavirus infection levels have hit an all-time high in England with one in 13 thought to have had Covid in the most recent week, data from the Office for National Statistics has revealed.

The latest figures also reveal that the number of coronavirus infections across the UK rose by about 650,000 compared with the week before, with 4,908,900 people estimated to have had Covid in the most recent week.

According to the latest information from the ONS, based on swabs collected from randomly selected households, an estimated 7.6% of the population in England had Covid in the week ending 26 March, about 4,122,700 people.

The figure is the highest recorded by the survey since it began looking at the situation in April 2020, and surpasses the previous high at the start of 2022, when 1 in 15 people in England were estimated to have had Covid.

Further analysis revealed infection levels had risen across all regions of the country, but were highest in the south-west of England, where 9.4% of the population were estimated to have had Covid in the most recent week.

The data also suggests that while infection levels have plateaued among children and young adults, they continued to rise among those aged 25 years and over in the week ending 26 March. About 8% of people aged 35 to 49 and 6.6% of those aged 70 and over are thought to have had Covid in the most recent week – the latter a record high for the age group.

Infection levels remain high in Scotland and Northern Ireland – although the trend in the most recent week is uncertain for both – and have continued to rise in Wales. The latests ONS data suggests about one in 14 people in Wales and one in 12 people in Scotland had Covid in the most recent week. For Northern Ireland, the figure was one in 15.

Kara Steel, a senior statistician for the Covid-19 Infection Survey, said that rapid rise in infection levels was fuelled by the growth of the Omicron variant BA.2 across the UK.

“Infection levels remain high, with the highest levels recorded in our survey seen in England and Wales and notable increases among older age groups,” she said.

And yet, we are all told to pretend it doesn't exist even though some hospitals and many businesses are struggling to operate, so they close down, often...

Moreover, from now on there is no support if one is ill with C-19, so one must choose to starve or go to work and spread the disease...

    Swell...

Still thinking about there is a chance not to get infected yourself? Your time is running out, too.
Either way, numbers of infections are pointless.
You only get a focus on these because we do 'measure' here. Never did that to that extent at flu seasons.

Each time you get a little injury, for instance you cut your skin when cutting veggies when cooking you get an infection. Pathogens are all around us.
Does it matter? Usually not, but if you get a sepsis from it probably yes.

What's the point is how are the capabilities at health system? Hospitals and the like...

When he's posted. "One in 13 people thought to have had Covid in week ending 26 March, based on random swabs" his purpose was probably to express another bad event of the pandemic, to underline how bad it is.
When I posted: "Your time is running out, too" I pointed on the rules of probabilities. Sooner or later...

Also when posting the source of the CDC admitting there is -72,000 deaths due to an error and no difference of died with and by SARS-COV-2, whereas at the vaccines IS that difference, it's 'right' thinking. Everybody cries out loud for demanding causality when it comes to vaccines and deaths, but not with the same intensity at SARS-CoV-2.
When I post most capitalistic pharma companies do mostly like to publish studies with a wanted outcome (Pfizer court order) it's a move to the 'left'.

What's 'heavy' there is the categorisation of 'right' and 'left' itself.

Also the definition of a 'pandemic'. At most European countries the rules SARS-COV-2 as a pandemic are not applied anymore. It's already seen as endemic.

Covid-19 is as endemic as the flu, perhaps the difference is that the flu was mostly seasonal and Covid-19 is year-round.
Vaccinated people will get sick with minor consequences and unvaccinated people will get sick with bigger consequences to death, in the rest as with the flu.
Vaccination for Covid-19 will probably be recommended twice a year.

When you look back it is nothing new, we are used to the presence of the flu, so we will get used to this.
Someone easier someone harder, and unfortunately many do not.
C'est la vie. Life is beautiful even without an umbrella.

More than 5 million UK infections last week and nope, not "measured" but estimated... And no, hospitals are not OK with it, many members of staff are sick, most are traumatised, their budget is continuously being cut...

And no workers are being supported nowadays - but forced by the Capital back to work, even if sick, to come and spread the "goods" - and that's "good", is it? Moreover, "natural", is it?

And in all this lack and even downright absence of empathy and solidarity I see nothing but nasty interests and human poverty, poverty of the soul!

If anyone can't see "Left" and "right" in all this - my sincere condolences!!!

As for X - I pity him, such a shrivelled up soul, it must hurt 24/7...

    Left and right:

"As Covid cases increase and protections are removed, Boris Johnson has decided that vaccinations and treatments alone will be enough for us to ‘live with Covid’.

But not only is this government struggling to secure antivirals for everyone most in need -- let alone the whole population, it’s blocking the poorest in the world from having access to these life-saving therapies.

This could change. A group of 31 parliamentarians -- including a conservative ex-minister -- have written to the government calling on it to end Big Pharma’s monopoly and support waiving patents on vaccines and treatments.

We’ve seen how vaccination helps keep hospitalisations and death down. New antiviral treatments could be a game-changer to stopping the virus in its tracks -- especially for those most at risk.

Adding huge public support now from all of us could push ministers to act -- so people the world over can benefit.

Call on the UK government to support the Covid patent waiver and knowledge sharing to save lives now.

What’s stopped this from happening already is rich governments in thrall to Big Pharma’s lobbyists.

Until everyone, everywhere in the world is vaccinated and has access to treatments there will be a threat of new Covid variants. We’re in a race against the virus, and protecting Big Pharma’s profits is slowing us down.

We can win if the UK drops its opposition to end patent monopolies on Covid vaccines, tests & treatments.

Save lives and bring the pandemic to an end. Waive Covid patents and ensure corporations share technologies and know-how now!

Scientists have been able to bring these live-saving treatments to us in record time thanks in part to massive public investment.

Big Pharma is taking our investments and profiting from it themselves, leaving millions killed and harmed from the infection.

Pfizer alone raked in $81.3bn in revenues last year -- more than the GDP of most countries. It is right to profit from a pandemic?

SumOfUs members all over the world have joined the demand for everyone to have equal access to covid treatments, regardless of where they live. Over 70,000 SumOfUs members are calling on the new German government to end its opposition to the waiver. Let’s make the UK government really feel the heat too.

It’s time we ended this corporate stranglehold over life itself."

We, the tax payers have paid for over 90% of research that went into vaccines and anti-virals and ALL the profits went to the private companies!!!!

Welcome to the real world, the american way of life and the real american dream.
If you have any questions about these... check with Mr Klaus Schwab.. or directly at the WHO, because this is not the end of either the money flow, nor of the resulting digital surveillance, the REAL problem.

"This is a guidance document for countries and implementing partners on the technical requirements for developing digital information systems for issuing standards-based interoperable digital certificates for COVID-19 vaccination status, and considerations for implementation of such systems, for the purposes of continuity of care, and proof of vaccination. "

A while ago the WHO did already published a booklet with the details, paid for by, who else, but the Bill and Melinda gates Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation. Get it here:

    https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/WHO-2019-nCoV-Digital_certificates-vaccination-2021.1

There is nothing coincidental happening here, this has been in the planning for a long, long time. Best source once again: Mr Schwab and his Davos meetings.

This, however, is quite childish: "It’s time we ended this corporate stranglehold over life itself." If ever any opportunity for that endeavor existed, it ended many, many years ago.

I do not deny that fact, but reason for that misery is not the current situation, it's the failed politics on public health which started years ago. Here it's the same.

If you see hospital admissions for England, you can clearly notice it's now the peak of BA.2. It's as high as Omicron before, BUT the highest peak was alpha.
    https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopula...es/coronaviruscovid19latestinsights/hospitals

You can also see that delta already caused LESS hospitalisation than its ancestors before. (To the topic the virus mutates to a weaker form).
The relative high amount of Omicron has to be related to the high amount of infections. For that it's quite low.

When you speak about missing empathy then address the politicians who have created the recent condition of the health system!
If it would be 'healthy' the current wave would be no problem, beta was much higher.
And I still think you think there is still 'something' wrong that could change so the pandemic would turn out 'better'.

You cannot fix the health system in a short time. Everybody will get SARS-COV-2 sooner or later and react to it. As long there is still ICU capacity left and nobody is retuned untreated, it's no difference. (I mean the individual reaction to it)
Each one who reacts on COVID severely will have demand for a hospital admission. The more are infected at the same time the more need at that time. You cannot change that fact by asking for empathy.

The only fact that will covid 'make' more like common cold IS a natural infection of everybody and by doing that the virus becomes milder per se due to mutation.
There won't come a vaccine that will change that. With a vaccine you only can reduce the probability to get severe at a natural infection. And that reducing of probability has a very short peak time and a short duration.

I guess you still haven't accepted that. The more are infected already the lower and shorter the peaks of future waves will be. The waves are unstoppable! Since SARS-CoV-2 belongs to the respiratory tract related viruses that mutate we will get infected again and again. The 'end' of the pandemic is an infection that has mild symptoms. But NOT the extinction of the virus.

So if somebody says: "We have to live with the virus" then he is not applying too less measures, he is recognizing the nature of the virus and rules of epidemiology.
Measures do only delay what's happening sooner or later. (Infection of more and more people).

The delay makes / made sense to gather time for research. But we have now vaccines and Omicron is mild. There won't be a better situation anytime soon (at future waves). So it's a valid question IF measures for the general public to delay are still justified.

    IVM.

I will read the study thoroughly next week.
    For now this:
    https://flccc.substack.com/p/independent-research-is-our-only?s=r

So the first thing I'll do is to check for conflicts of interests (what I do all the time when evaluating any studies).

    Edit: 03/04
Also this is a read which should be done before, especially when you are not a part of it.
(Evidence based science and what's going on)-

Not only politics is suffering from major 'issues', science as well.
The virus of capitalistic interests is not only misleading politics, science also.
I know it from my own job, but not everybody probably knows about.

    It's a BMJ article.

"Evidence based medicine has been corrupted by corporate interests, failed regulation, and commercialisation of academia, argue these authors"

    https://www.bmj.com/content/376/bmj.o702

Corona worked as a catalyst to manifest what's actually wrong in our society. It's a start of manifestation of future events.
The war is another, the politics on (renewable) energies will be another. And the influence on economy and especially fiat will (indebtedness and inflation) cause future massive events. There are times of a massive change and there will be future escalations.

I'll tell you what is the opposite of "childish" - old man's "wisdom": "That is over, son, this opportunity is gone forever and ever and we can never ever change it again"...

You know, sometimes I wish you were steeped a lot more in "Western" philosophy... At this point I feel like sitting you down and starting from ABC... :D

Btw, you have no idea just how badly the austerity s**t reduced our capacity in the UK's NHS system! None! And it keeps being gutted...

And yes, we can end that over night, if only anyone remembers Keynes!!!! We did that for the financial system, so WTF?!?

As for the "freedom" the right wingers have "envisaged" with Brexit and austerity, then this kind of C-19 "strategy":

    https://twitter.com/bmay/status/1510251568725118982?

Bloody hell, no staff - in this case it's the airport....

But hospitals or businesses are no different...

Don't let that stop you, though...

    NONE OF IT IS REAL!!!

Currently at least 2 million people in the UK are not very well served with vaccines and anti-virals etc. Critical group of people...

With this kind of "gov strategy" - what do you think, what will happen next week and the weeks after that with this strain of the virus, given no furlough scheme in place, no measures against spreading of the virus, now that everybody is mixing freely, no masks and so on?!?

"Chainsaw out" is your public health policy, is it?

Here's a good one, which seems rather plausible to me: Achille Mbembe!

The author states that precisely during the pandemic neoliberalism turned out to be/showed itself as necro-liberalism because it always makes various hierarchies amongst people - which groups can be sacrificed, which ones are less worthy - older folk, the handicapped, migrants etc. are dispensable. Neoliberalism in its essence has a sacrifice justification logic built-in!

GB is known to have a good scientific overview of the pandemic.

If you want to know about the latest (recombinant) variants (XD, XE and XF) have a look at Technical briefing 39.
    https://assets.publishing.service.g...063424/Tech-Briefing-39-25March2022_FINAL.pdf

    Page 12:
XD: delta AY.4 which has got the spike from Omicron (BA.1)
    XE: Omicron and BA.2 recombinant
XF: delta and BA.1, but most from BA.1 (break point nucleotide 5,386)

IMHO only XE might play a longer role...
