Hi, @John Sutherland! Thank you for the heads-up!
I've just noticed myself that the Update Manager offered a new version of Cinnamon, but also Nemo was updated (to version 3.4.7), Nemo share (to version 3.4.2), cinnamon-screensaver (to version 3.4.2), along with some other components and libraries... Hopefully, as you say, this update will finally solve Cinnamon crashes... @Superfly: Anything to report, since your last post in this thread?

Dunno, but had to switch to Romeo to get the mint-updater update first, then the cinnamon updates became available.. odd (as there is nothing listed under Romeo on the packages.LinuxMint site), but anyway..

T-Man, my kernel upgrade made no difference.. so onto Plan D now (hope we sort this out before we run out of alphabet... LOL)

Thanx John, for the heads up... ;)

    Hi, everyone!
I've just noticed that Linux Mint 18.2 "Sonya" now has the official support for kernel 4.13.0.x in Update Manager.

    Kernel 4.13.0.x.png

But, checking the bug reports, I can see a lot of bugs reported, so I'm passing this one out. I've already tried kernel 4.13 from Ubuntu kernel-ppa/mainline repository and it didn't feel right, as it gave me a lot of AHCI errors.

Hello @TinMan - Thanks for the heads-up. I read the release notes and see that like LM 18.2, LM18.3 is also based on Ubuntu 16.04.3 Xenial Xerus. I recently visited the Ubuntu downloads page and found that 17.04 was the last version of Ubuntu to offer both 32 bit and 64 bit versions for desktop users, and starting with 17.10, there are only 64 bit .iso's available for desktop users. Makes me wonder if Linux Mint 19 will follow the same path, or possibly head off in a different direction.

The reason I say this is in the October blog, Clem mentioned that Linux Mint Debian Edition 3 (LMDE 3) should be appearing sometime in the first quarter of 2019. He went on to explain that even though LMDE takes a back seat to Linux Mint in popularity, the LM team has been willing to put in the extra time and effort to develop and maintain LMDE in alongside Linux Mint. Why? Just in case Ubuntu goes out of business, or goes off in a dramatically different direction, then LMDE is always available to take over as the basis for future versions of Linux Mint.

Got Mint 18.3 Xfce installed and ran into trouble with xorg.conf getting deleted/renamed every reboot which breaks nvidia settings and other problems...can not even play a video with VLC unless I change the output type. Sometimes when I bring up nvidia settings control panel, it is empty, with no settings in the menu. Don't feel like fooling with it.

Actually, it is already in Linux Mint repositories, so just go to Software Manager and install it (and uninistal it) from there.

And, a couple of hours later, a newer version of 4.13 series has been released (4.13.0-26)... Updated, with no issues so far...

Updates are offered via mint updater. (Checked at 17.3 and 18.3 cinnamon 64-bit)
I have received them all yesterday. I have got Nvidia 384.111 from an additionally added PPA.

Make sure to have all levels enabled. The kernel update I received on 17.3 is Level 5 whereas on 18.3 it was a level 4 update.

EDIT: Please do not install 4.4.0-108. Go for 109 or later if you are on the 4.4 tree.

    108 has issues: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...uge-performance-hit.76081/page-6#post-1403053

I checked with spectre-meltdown-checker after installing the updates and it still shows a Spectre vulnerability (?
