Well the problem here is that it is failing *as soon* as it attempts to configure the damn Xbox It's crucial I get this up ASAP, I need this to work badly, man
one thing - you haven't got a third party firewall running have you? one of the first things WMC does is to open the required ports on the firewall
No, I'm using Windows Defender. Maybe you can try giving me the download for WMC V12 so I can try a reinstall?
and firewall is enabled? disabling the firewall breaks XBOX connection for some reason, presumably WMC doesn't get the response it needs? this is where I got mine: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...ible-alternatives.61061/page-168#post-1200602
okay I think I got it to kinda work but it's failing (aka stuck on the last step) now, 360 saying it was disconnected from the WMC PC Also I am dead sure firewall is enabled
how is the xbox connected - via wi-fi / cable / switch / router? read that some people say that certain routers have filters that can prevent connection
Been reading through posts on extenders again and noticed that in this post https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...ible-alternatives.61061/page-374#post-1287296, @crash2009 says he had to switch out MCX2Prov.exe with MCX2prove.exe.XB360, which is included in V8.8.x and V13 but I've never had to do that with any system I've used my Xbox on. In fact I found that doing that stopped them working. Just thought it was interesting.
have you looked at C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\logs\FirstRun.log and in event viewer to see if there's anything helpful?
Well, the firstrun.log I mentioned is just a text file that sometimes tells you why things are failing in WMC. You can open Event Viewer by right clicking on the start menu and then select categories in the tree on the left. There might be pertinent entries under Windows Logs in 'software' or 'system' and you can use the search feature to find them by typing in MCX for example. There's also an entry for Media Center further down under Application and Services Logs.
