Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center install.wim This video: youtube.com/watch?v=KFRGxVriLDM explains how to create a Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center ISO image (which includes install.wim). If you stop after the "imagex"... command and repeat the "Dism /mount-wim"... command to remount the WIM, you can then copy all the files you need from C:\win81\mount (post #206).
That's good news then, if we can get Windows 8.1 without media center to pay the wtv with the codecs that are used in win 8.1 wmc then we can copy that info weather it be codecs or just registry modifications to our package. I bet that's a good chunk of what were missing here. Well that and the same files used on win10, but I think getting win 8.1 without wmc playing with offical codecs then that's our first step! We take wmc out of the mix and rule out tampering first before we diagnose tampering. Ultimately if we take our 8.1 package and install it on 8.1 non wmc. We should be able to have a fully functional wmc as win 8.1 works with wmc. Right now, codecs still do not work on install in this scenario.
I have faith you guys can get the microsoft codecs to work. I check this thread 10 times a day. Keep up the great work
I checked and I already had the files in their correct locations, perhaps due to my Windows 10 install being an upgrade over Windows 8.1 MCE
anyone having issues with recording shows? seems like it won't record unless i open up WMC and let it run. it doesn't record the scheduled shows in the background unless I run WMC in the first place. I've enabled the Windows Media Center Scheduling service to automatic. Am I missing something else?
Which installer version you used? and no, making Scheduling service as automatic won't solve it the issue happens because of missing permissions for this directory: Code: \Windows\System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows\Media Center it was fixed in latest installer v6
You will need to have put NETWORK Service in the administrator group: Code: From Computer Management, expand System Tools > Local Users and Groups > Groups. Double-click the Administrator group and click Add. Click Locations and select your computer node. Now: Type Network Service into the 'Enter the object names' OR Click Advanced, then Find Now and select it from the Search Results. I would advice you to install the latest version (V3 for x86 or v6 for x64) which will do this automatically and have all the latest files.
I have been reading this thread for a while! Thanks to all for the hard work. One thing I would like to point out is that 1) We take someone's ADVICE, but 2) We ADVISE someone! LOL
Is there a way to configure speakers? I have the latest version of WMC (v6, x64) and it won't let me. Only shows troubleshooting screen.
Anyone notice that search does not work in WMC ? If you go to search, and I picked a movie that I saw in the guide and typed it in, No results found. Even shows that are coming up later in the week, didn't show anything. If you go into Indexing Options, WIndows Media Center is listed, so it should be indexed but, search does not work...
Does "Closed Captions" work ?? I think not, because I see the decoders are not present in the playback graph.
