If any one interesting, here are sample/simple scripts to automate the installation of Spring 2014 Updates (Online or Offline) the scripts are written to work with All the six updates (not just 4), so make sure you download them all (or you may edit the script and remove 2939087 + 2938439 parts) View attachment S14.zip Spoiler S14-Online-All.cmd to install all the updates one by one respectively, but in the same boot session without rebooting in-between. it will check for the existing of each package before installing it. faster, but might not work, especially on used systems that have rollups or leaked updates installed. Requirements: just place the script in the directory where the MSU files are present. Run as admin. S14-Online-Reboot.cmd to install the updates one by one separately, but it will check for pending status and informs you to reboot if needed. if no pending status detected, you can exit the script then re-run it to install the next update. Requirements: just place the script in the directory where the MSU files are present. Run as admin. S14-Offline-ISO.cmd to integrate the updates into all wim files found in default Windows 8.1 ISO (boot.wim, install.wim, winre.wim). the script works with the Dism's RTM version 6.3.9600.16384, so no need for the newer ADK (but it will be detected if installed) therefor, the current working system must be Windows 8.1 RTM at least. the main advantage of it is that it will extract the files from updates only once, and point all commands to its path, whereas the default integration using the .msu or .cab file will make Dism extract then remove the files in each command, and that requires much more time (especially with the huge package kb2919355). Requirements: Extract Windows 8.1 ISO file to appropriate folder path (e.g. C:\Work\ISO), or copy the iso contents from DVD/USB. Put the MSU files in appropriate folder path (e.g. C:\Work\MSU). Open the script with notepad or any text editor, and adjust the variables at script's top as described. Verify your settings and paths, then Run script as admin. S14-Offline-Wim.cmd to integrate the updates into one single wim file. the rest are like the previous. Requirements: Put the wim file in appropriate folder path. Open the script with notepad or any text editor, and adjust the variables at script's top as described. important: you must correctly specify the wim file type, so you have to choose WINPE=Y if the wim file is bootable WinPE (boot.wim, winre.wim), or WINPE=N if the wim file is standard system image (install.wim). Verify your settings and paths, then Run script as admin.
Hello guys ! i did downloaded the 4 msu wzr provided , but i ve heard that there is 6 files any explanation and where i can find them and how to install em ? thank you
Change the default icon of the APPS such as Photos, Mail, Market, Weather(apps that are meant to be open in START SCREEN) that you ping to the taskbar. It's not a really big deal but it would be nice to change them so all my icons theme are the same.
Maybe 2 real dumb questions, but maybe I have overlooked it... can these updates be used on any language windows versions? [mine is german]. Are these yet the final builds or do we have to expect last minute rollups again [remember those 8.1 "final" isos]. Thanks.
Yep, worked on my german ProfessionalWMC . As long as the langpack is installed prior to Update 1 (as in our versions) it will work .
Yes, this is language-independant And nobody knows for sure, this is 'RTM', but the 8.1 RTM redefined what RTM actually means, there might be more last minute updates.
A less dumb question lol is this also meant for Server 2012 R2 in the way of the update going to it? Or will we see a different update for it?
the question is: will those last minute updates install over windows update or we will need to install another 355 patch aka 700mb update?
Did anyone else realize that IE11 now shows which tabs have sounds playing? very useful if you want to shut a tab that has an ad playing and you don't know which one. Chrome had it first, nice copy MS.
Is there any way to keep taskbar active in metro apps all the time? Sometimes it does not detect my movement downwards? Also, is there any way to disable desktop icons on my start screen? It looks kind of ugly
AFAIK they are meant for both 8.1 and 2012r2 I've seen only a few differences in updates over the last year and a half that didn't apply to both 8 and 2012, and typically they had different KBfile patch names.. But, that being said... Wzor.net lists it as both 8.1 and 2012r2, so /shrug? Kinda hard to tell without an official MS page on the issue.
