Some of us use Linux+Windows OS(es) and some even virtualized OS(es).
Some of us don't BUT would like to learn how to use other OS(es) too.

The previous weeks there were some posts about this here.

Do you think it is a good idea to start following new section(s) in this forum?
-Unless you vote for it - it will not happen!
-If you are against please let us know why! There ought to be a real discussion taking place...
    -Please vote!
    -Multiple choises ALLOWED!!

Please add your comments below!! :)

    What is your opinion?

    In my opinion:
-OSx86 run nicely virtualized! Excellent way to enjoy nostalgic games, Norton Commander etc. :p
-people having hardware so weak that could not run wxp/vista should install w2k!! :);)
-w95/98/Me are old and have no support from M$ any longer
-w95/98/Me are hopelessly unstable, running low on memmory, you name it... If you have to - most convenient is to run them virtualized too!

    Hi,

I have always a open ear when I can gain knowledge.
For me personally multiboot OSes (Mac OS and Vista) sounds interesting.

I would like to know more about Mac OS, I don't like Linux.:p

    Hi Yen!

Well that is one reason why I started the other, diversified, poll - to get a feeling for what people here use and like!
(To see Results from the diversified Poll: "What OS(es) do You use?", click here)

But as with sweet things in life, the taste is different... :D

I hope your multiboot wishes can be satisfied in a "Virtualization" user section...if we will get one...
-Are your content with a "Virtualization" section?
-Or do you have a better idea?

    Fair enough,

It is a good thing that this take some time...
...then there is time to think it over...
...time for some more people to vote and, hopefully
...come up with some good ideas to choose from...

If I compare the results from this Poll (Windows+Linux and Virtualization) with the diversified Poll (Which OS(es) do You use?) and combine...
-so many topics come to my mind...
    -so many questions pop up...
-Linux-Questions across the Windows platforms, hard to adress without THIS new section...
-Virtualization-Questions across both the Linux platforms as well as the Windows platforms, hard to adress without THIS new section...
    ...

First let me thank you for your thoughts about to create more sections and to make mydigitallife more attractive.:)

    My opinion:

Me and friends of mine don't use virtual machines. Most of them are running Vista and XP as real multiboot or Vista only. Since we have a XP and Vista section already, I've asked about another OS of their interest.

They agreed it should be Mac OS.....why not change this:

    Windows and Linux
Technical support or share tips and tricks on Windows and Linux.

    to:

    Mac OS and Linux
Technical support or share tips and tricks on Mac OS and Linux.

Even though I have almost 2000 post written I'm specialised for difficult bioses / Vista XP OS and I'm busy with the WoW project
I think I'll cannot contribute that much to the new sections......
    .....so let the poll decide......

Edit: I don't mean multiboot Linux and Mac OS......just a shared section for Mac OS and Linux

Thank you Yen for sharing your opinion with us!

    1) About adding one section for "Windows related stuff using other OSes": Windows + Linux/Mac/FreeBSD...

...sections for Mac and Linux can be found all over... I don't think that should be a goal itself...
-being a forum concentrated on Windows stuff, I beleive we ought to have "Windows related stuff using other OSes", at least as guideline - that would be more unique!
    -911medic expressed something similar here.
-In my opinion: It is NOT about "other OS-specific issues"
(for that Linux/Mac-forums already exist) BUT about those issues occuring when you use Windows + other OS(es), like Linux, Mac, FreeBSD, in dualboot together!
-Each new thread will of course decide about its content independantly - If lots of posts will be just Linux-, just Mac- or just FreeBSD issues... SO BE IT!
-in the praktice it may develop into a shared section, then Yen will be right... we will see, but first we must be brave enough to start it...
-as raw knee expressed it: "Seeing that some are already using a Windows+Linux setup on their computers, this could open a new point for discussion for the forum members. It could also serve as a place where other members curious about Linux could post questions as they try using it."
-I don't mind changing "Windows and Linux" to "Windows + Linux/Mac/FreeBSD..." (ranged in descending marketshare order)
-At least then our INTENTION will be clear... "to focus on Windows related stuff using other OSes"
-if members then chose to write Linux only-, Mac only-, FreeBSD only posts - IT WILL STILL BE OK!
-then at least LOTS OF LINES in the Computing Life section was saved... :D (instead of having one Linux-, one Mac-, and one FreeBSD section separately)
-Poll results indicate clearly that there is a strong need for such a section here aswell!

    2) About adding one section for users "Virtualizing Windows and other OSes": Virtualization

Seeing the Poll results sofar, an astonashing, > 40% of members here use VIRTUALIZATION! (Results from the diversified Poll: "What OS(es) do You use?", click here)
-Virtualization is far more common than, at least, I would have thought...
-Virtualization Poll results indicate clearly that there is a strong need for a Virtualization section here aswell!

With thoose attempts we have added issues concerning and related to:

Ok guys, thanks for your opinions. I'll just combine some ideas I'd like...what do you think about them?

    new subforum 1:
    Windows + other OSes (Linux/Mac/FreeBSD...)
Technical support or share tips and tricks on Windows + other OSes (Linux/Mac/FreeBSD etc.)

    new subforum 2:
    Virtualization
Technical support or share tips and tricks on Virtualization.

So we would then have one section about Windows combined with whatever OS one could think of and one special virtualization section.
I think two new ones is enough for the instant, then let's see how it's developing...don't want to end up with the longest board index mankind could imagine, e.g. just like having 200 subforums for every kind of thinkable OS/combination.

I'll write to the admin now...let you know then ;)

-a much wider spectrum of interesting threads...
    -organized without getting cluttered...
-flexible enough to cover various OSes...

I think it will be awesome
I just hope it will get approved...

To ALL of you who voted:
    -Thank's to ALL of you!!
-Whithout your OPINION, NO new sections!! :)

To ALL of you who YET DID NOT vote:
-Please do - above two sections are NOT yet APPROVED!!
-It is STILL VERY interesting to follow and get a feeling for what OSes are beeing used out there!
(To improve the Results from the diversified Poll: "What OS(es) do You use?", click here)

    -Thank You, ancestor(v)!!
