is it true this 17134.1 and 17134.5 don't have the Spectre vulnerability patches? Would it be better to take 1709 release, integrate the patch and latest updates?
@Enthousiast So I have downloaded the ISO file again from another host. All is well. SHA1: fb4b1e6f643814bf51e5678f62597385031b2f90 confirmed. Many thanks for your help. Much appreciated. Cheers,
I didn't noticed any improvements on gaming, i don't have any stutters like i have been facing on 1709, that's good, i'll keep with this 1803 for a time, if i don't like it, i'll come back to LTSB and i'll wait for a 2018/2019 LTSB release.
Nope, it's fully patched. At least on Z370. Spectre requires BIOS update though or that microcode patch from Microsoft. i wouldn't really install that without testing performance, for me it resulted in a pretty big performance drop, meanwhile the same micorcode revision provided through a BIOS update didn't have any noticeable effect.
Can someone clarify is the final build not 1804 (Build 17134) As opposed to the title of this thread 1803 (Build 17134.1) ?
I'm pretty sure you need both the BIOS patch AND the Microsoft patch to be fully patched, even on Z370. I have an Asus Z370 board and from what i understand you need both. Edit: I'm not saying you're not fully patched, likely patch built into new build. But 1709 etc. you needed both the software patch and the updated BIOS . I'll check it with the Spectre tool when I get home from work.
offline enabling is working. Code: Dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /All /Source:E:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess where E is the drive of your mounted Windows 10 Image file you installed
After installing April Update (version 1803, build 17134.1), Windows Update installed an update last night, which I suppose was 17134.5, and asked for a reboot. I turned down the laptop, I saw the message stating that Windows was working on updates, and then it shut down. However, when I booted up today, it got stuck in a black screen with spinning circle animation. The mouse cursor is visible, but nothing else works. Ctrl+Alt+Esc to open Task Manager does not work, neither does Ctrl+Alt+Del. Is it possible to repair the installation without having to clean install Windows? I created a bootable USB flash drive and chose to repair Windows, but it didn't work. I wonder if using command prompt will be able to help me. Is there any software from which I can recover my files from C:\ partition before doing a clean installation? Thanks in advance. edit: I managed to enter into Startup settings and then boot in Safe Mode. It booted into a blue screen with this message: "We couldn't complete the updates Undoing changes Don't turn off your computer." And now it booted into Safe mode. I moved personal files from C:\ into D:\ parition, but I wish I could back up the whole C: partition, in case I have no choice than to perform a clean installation. edit 2: looks like it was an issue with Intel Graphics drivers. I booted into Safe mode, uninstalled Intel HD Graphics drivers and rebooted, and not it booted normally. I reinstalled latest Intel HD Graphics package obtained from Intel website, and it's booting normally, problem solved. I wonder if Windows Update forced broken Intel graphic drivers.
That's what I was saying, that it's "fully patched". Sure enough it's included, since there are no CUs basically for 17134 other than the .5 Insider thing.
Glad you found drivers you needed. I spoke with Microsoft today... fun times. It seems the issue has been reported and the tech I spoke to believes a fix will be included in a later update.. as to when, who knows. An upgrade from 1709 to 1803 is best he says since the current 1803 ISO won't post pass the Windows Logo. The tech believes the system hanging at boot has something to do with a legacy driver. A driver to what? He wouldn't say. I think it has something to do with the 3 different SATA controllers that is on the Rampage III. I remember back when this was an issue with one of Windows 7's service pack that took a while to correct. Guess this system is stuck on 1709 for now. If others have a solution or another other idea, please, feel free to post. Thanks.
