I think people need to differentiate weather and climate ! Also pollution is a separate issue, does pollution influence weather and or climate or neither ? The big issue I have is with the destruction of trees which is not good, trees create their own climate !
I don't care a pap for it. It doesn't matter how long it takes, the most important do what you want, devil may care, other people are none of my business.
We can differentiate by meaning and by importance. Climate compared to weather is just a bigger region in a longer period of time....(weather: around 1 square Kilometer, period hour -- climate 100 square kilometers and more, period some months or years). 'Climate' is the term used in politics. It is actually inappropriate to propagate environmental protection, because it is frequently confused with 'weather' and climate change has also a natural compound. People can have many 'excuses'..or potential for abuse... Pollution has no natural compound per definition, though. Nobody would argue that plastics in the ocean couldn't be man-made, it's natural. Yeah why care about (you)....you probably later might find out that there is no big difference of 'you' and 'nature'...
I can't take what the Rolling Stone prints at face value, they are known to not follow up on their stories. Like pavement (asphalt?) does not melt into some kinda watery goo, that looks too much like a photoshop pic
https://www.democracynow.org/2017/7...arths_sixth_mass_extinction_has_already_begun Scientist Warn Earth's Sixth Mass Extinction Has Already Begun Report: 100 Companies Responsible for 70% of Global Greenhouse Gas Emissions
I assume, based on the structure of your headline, that those 100 companies were also responsible for the last 5 mass extinctions starting from the Ordovician 450 million years ago !
The statistical right function is the one where the sum of all square-distances of any pair of value (dots) results to the lowest. It's a function with several minimums and maximums and inflection points. The function can have a slope though. To find the best function we can apply 'regression'. The blue lines are not even a function. The graph reflects the same 'issue' people have when making an opinion. It all depends on the perspective and focus on the matter. And what's about the mass murder the proto-cyanobacteria, lol? They caused GOE (Great oxygenation event) that has actually killed all the anaerobic beings already 2.4 billion years ago, lol. Even though I take environment protection serious I have to say such combination of headlines actually helps the opponents. The first headline is just a pure logical conclusion from cyclic processes. The 'next' extinction of the masses has begun with the end of the latest. The second headline then is placed with the intent the (naive) reader associates to the first. Scientific data are without emotions, also scientific conclusions. Anyway to make it best selling people choose such emotional headlines to address emotions of the reader and bad headlines sell better than good ones. And it's not about to preserve (species) all the time, anything changes. It's about suffer and pain we create by interaction with 'beings' / nature. Evolution has made it possible that humans can recognize each others as a social and sentient being, we can grasp coherences related to our idea of being also as individual. With that there are responsibilities......and we should act that way. Proto-cyanobacteria could not, lol Interesting in that aspect is the correlation of evolutionary progress and free thermodynamic energy. Burning fossile fuels- Oxygen to CO2 actually reverses the GOE and with it the free energy. @gorski Your pictures about plastics in the ocean are more educational.
Regression analysis? LOL. Just look at the left left side of the graph and then the right. There's your global warming. And mind you, that doesn't even include heat absorbed by the oceans.
Yen, you seem to have uncritical "Idea" of a "scientist" as a robot etc. etc. And no, the cyclical stuff without Man is not the same as what we are doing, emotional or not...

The only reasonable way is regression analyses. There IS global warming related to the posted sector. I do not disagree. You cannot compare left to right only! When having a look at it you can notice that it depends on the relative sector. It goes up and down up and down, THEN more globally it comes not down to zero anymore. The entire graph you have posted is just another sector of something more global. It could be just an upwards part of something that goes later down again..you know what I mean? Regression analysis is an established procedure when it comes to quantitative relations or to future predictions. The function that can be obtained by regression has a positive slope and that indicates warming, you are right.
Here is what will happen, take it from an alien ! Nothing will happen to the Earth other than species dying to a point where the Earth cannot sustain the billions of humans, which will result in mass deaths of humans ! You might think mass deaths of humans is a bad thing, but that's based on perspective, there are mass deaths right now of chickens, fish and cows etc. So the humans die off to the point where they are not a burden on the Earth's resources. Then over time, a long time mind you, the Earth replenishes it self and the cycle restarts. The Earth always wins except when the Sun swallows it up ! If humans are especially stupid then they go extinct ! Not a bad thing in my point of view, but it may be to humans !
Very sorry to say but everyday all I see is a greedy human race without a conscience! Someone will have to pay for that greed !
