I'm sure the bios is corrupt, because I tried to update it myself and after restarting, froze at the bios screen.

    I tried all possible combinations!

nothing yet, only emits beep (sound).

    can be so complicated?

I guess I have to buy back a motherboard!

Can someone please help me with Insyde Bios for HP Ultrabook? h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-115172-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4063&product=5273936&sw_lang=

I downloaded and extracted the .exe using winrar. In the extracted folder is a file 01894.FD . My board ID is 1894.

(I am currently unable to boot windows, hence why I can not just use the InsydeFlash.exe to update my bios....long story.)

I tried opening 01894.FD in the PhoenixTool and I got the error "Not Phoenix/Dell/Insyde/EFI BIOS"

I am stuck now and don't know what to do. I need to update my bios in order to be able to use windows again (I need to disable intel RAID, but my current bios version is locked down and does not allow me to modify those settings. The new bios version will let me)

Hiren's gives me an lsass error and then shuts down. I suspect it has something to do with my drive configuration. Is there any way to turn that .FD into a bin so I can just update bios from HP F2 option?

Hi, I'm new here so please let me apologize if I'm posting in the wrong thread. Thanks to all concerned for this informative thread and forum.

I have a bricked HP/Compaq Presario CQ62z-200 which has Rev. 1444-100 printed on the bottom under the main battery. My immediate problem is that I can't get Phoenixtool to produce a .sig file for me.

The reason my CQ62 is bricked is as follows: The power management software was turned off on the computer. The main battery was then allowed to go dead while the computer was running but not plugged into AC power. After AC power was restored, but before the battery had time to fully recharge, I pressed the power button. An HP BIOS recovery screen was then displayed which said something to the effect that the BIOS had evaporated into nothingness and needed to be restored. The BIOS restore program then appeared to run successfully, but failed to reboot afterwards.

Now, when the power switch is pressed, the computer lights the wifi LED, briefly displays the orange Compaq logo screen, and then, unpredictably, blinks the caps lock key zero, one, or two times, before switching itself off automatically. The power will not stay "on."

Examining the undamaged HDD, I found an HP_TOOLS partition containing /Hewlett-Packard/BIOS/Current/ files: 01444.bin and 01444.sig, however, using the Win+B key combination fails to run the HP BIOS recovery program from the HDD.

In the HP_TOOLS partition's /Hewlett-Packard/BIOSUpdate directory, the file HpBiosUpdate.log contained the following text:
03/18/2012 21:14:10 All Required Protocols Located
    03/18/2012 21:14:10 HpBiosUpdate.Mode = 4
03/18/2012 21:14:10 EFI HP BIOS Update 1.3.2.0 Started
    03/18/2012 21:14:10 Current Directory = HEWLETT-PACKARD\BIOSUpdate\
    03/18/2012 21:14:10 SMBIOS Init Success
    03/18/2012 21:14:10 Family = 103C_5335KV SystemFamily = 2
    03/18/2012 21:16:24 Skipping Verification Block 32 Address 0x00020000 Size 0x00001000
    03/18/2012 21:16:24 Next BlockIndex 33, BlockAddress = 0x00021000
    03/18/2012 21:16:24 Skipping Verification Block 33 Address 0x00021000 Size 0x00001000
    03/18/2012 21:16:24 Next BlockIndex 34, BlockAddress = 0x00022000
    03/18/2012 21:17:04 BIOS Update Successful

(However it was not in fact successful.)

Next, I duplicated the HP_TOOLS directory from the HDD on a USB thumbdrive with a FAT32 partition, but this also fails to run the BIOS recovery. I then created a USB drive using the steps outlined in this thread, and this also fails to run the BIOS recovery. Instead, during these attempts, the screen stays black and fails to display the Compaq logo while the USB drive is repeatedly accessed. I've tried various combinations, resetting the CMOS battery (which requires complete disassembly of the laptop, btw), and I've tried removing the HDD and all but one stick of memory, but none of these steps has been successful. I've tried it both with and without the main battery, and with and without the wifi modem card.

When the wifi modem card is removed, the computer displays a monochrome text error message, complaining that it can't find the modem, and asks the user to press ENTER to continue. When ENTER is pressed, it shuts itself down. At no time does it ever display any of the usual BIOS messages, like the BIOS version, or other device detection messages. It appears to halt right before doing so.

The computer almost inevitably shuts itself off right after displaying 'Press the ESC key for Setup' under the logo. Function keys for setup, boot menu, etc., can briefly change this message, just for a split second, right before it switches itself off, with a click. During attempts at running the BIOS restore, it fails to display the Compaq logo, and the display remains in monochrome 24x80 character mode (i.e., MS-DOS mode). Sometimes it switches off during the BIOS restore attempt, again displaying 'Press the ESC key for Setup' in monochrome mode right before the halt. Sometimes it runs for hours, or until I switch it off, while blinking the USB drive, overheating itself, and running the fan at ever increasing speeds during this time. Only once did it fail to switch off from holding the power switch down, and at that one time, I had to pull the plug.

I'm using Phoenixtool v2.19 to prepare various .bin files from the HTP site. So far I've tried HP's sp52598 (the latest BIOS version, F.29) and sp50979 (F.17), which is dated 2010-11-17. The 01444.bin and 01444.sig files from my intact hard drive are dated January of 2011, which is around the time I bought this used laptop.

Phoenixtool is not giving me a sig file. I've tried the USB BIOS restore without the .sig file, without success. These are the files Phoenixtool produces:
    04/07/2011 12:02 PM 2,294,656 01444F29.bin
    10/19/2013 05:00 PM 2,097,152 01444F29.bin.DEC
    10/19/2013 05:01 PM 2,294,656 01444F29_SLIC.bin
    10/19/2013 05:00 PM 2,097,152 01444F29_SLIC.bin.DEC
    10/19/2013 05:00 PM <DIR> DUMP
    10/19/2013 05:01 PM 86,509 SLIC.LOG
    5 File(s) 8,870,125 bytes

01444F29.bin is the file extracted from sp52598, and, I'm copying 01444F29.bin.DEC to the USB drive as:

    /Hewlett-Packard/BIOS/01444.bin

    Thanks!

    Edited to add:
    --------------

I'm very happy to report success in resurrecting my CQ62z-200 by the simple trick of copying the RSA.SIG file before Phoenixtool.exe deleted it. I don't know why Phoenixtool deleted this file upon completion, but I'm guessing it might be just a minor bug in this complex but obviously very effective program.

Thanks very much to AndyP for providing the Phoenixtool, and to this thread, and this forum. Thanks also to kallisti5, LatinMcG, Busykid508, cytherian, and too many others to mention who have made useful and informative posts. It's late for me here tonight but I'll try to post in more detail tomorrow. Thanks again!

RSA.sig is what u need to rename to 01444.sig and bin

u need to create USB EFI in the diagnostics section of dload page.
    take HDD out

also take a ram stick out as i suspect one is bad since hdd is not letting it recover.

Thanks again LatinMcG, by following your advice from earlier in this thread, and using the Phoenixtool, I was able to completely restore my computer to its former full functionality, and even managed to upgrade it to the latest available BIOS version as partial compensation for all the unnecessary hassle and downtime this manufacturer has dumped upon so many of us. My memory and all the hardware were okay in spite of the bricked BIOS. My long-retired CQ62 laptop had been a haven for spiders for quite some time until now, and might well have wound up as a boat anchor except for the things that I've learned reading this thread, as well as the thread on "How to Use New Phoenix Bios Mod Tool to Modify Phoenix/Dell/Insyde/EFI Bios Files".

Eliminating all the steps that didn't work, here's a summary of the steps I took in sucessfully resurrecting this died-for-no-good-reason brick called the HP Compaq Presario CQG62z-200 CTO Notebook PC:

    1. First I copied down the following 3 numbers from inside the main battery compartment under the battery:
    ( a.) Rev. 1444-100
    ( b.) Product: VX491AV
    ( c.) Model: CQ62z-200

    2. Using another computer of a different model running on Windows XP, I went to the hp.com website and clicked on "Support", then clicked on "Drivers and Downloads".

    3. Under "Find by product" I entered: VX491AV and then clicked "Go".

    4. Clicked on the only result, which was "Compaq Presario CQ62z-200 CTO Notebook PC" (noting that the model number matches).

    5. Selected my operating system, "Windows 7 (64-bit)", and clicked "Next".

    6. Clicked the plus sign (+) next to "Utility-Tools" and then downloaded "HP BIOS Update UEFI" Version 2.3.0.0

    7. Ran the downloaded program or "soft pack": sp52509.exe using the option to install on a "USB Flash Drive" after inserting a 4GB SanDisk USB drive.

    8. Returning to the HP website, I clicked on the plus sign (+) next to "BIOS" and then downloaded "HP Notebook System BIOS Update (AMD Processors)" (Version F.29, the newest version at this time).

    9. Saved the "soft pack" file: sp52598.exe and ran it. Running this file automatically extracted some files, including:
C:\swsetup\SP52598\01444F29.bin ... this was the only file I needed.

    10. In the Start menu, clicked on "My Computer" and navigated to the folder: C:\swsetup\SP52598\

    11. Created a "New Folder": C:\swsetup\SP52598\work and copied 0144F29.bin into this directory.

    12. Started PhoenixTool.exe v2.19 and selected C:\swsetup\SP52598\work\0144F29.bin as my "Original BIO" file.

    13. Manufacturer: HP

    14. SLIC file: HP.BIN

    15. SLP file: HP.txt

    16. For RW file, I had no way to obtain such a file so I left the RW file option unchanged (blank).

    17. For me, this is where it gets tricky... I was almost ready to give up before I figured this next part out. I should be ready to click "Go" in PhoenixTool at this point, but I've been here before, and I've seen that, for this particular model at least, the Phoenix Tool program is going to delete the RSA.sig file when it finishes. So what I'm going to do is open my USB drive in another "My Computer" window, and navigate to the \Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current folder in that window. Before I click "Go", I want to have 3 windows open on my desktop, and move them around so that all 3 are visible at the same time:

    ( a.) The PhoenixTool Window

( b.) The USB drive's \Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current\ folder (which is, at this time, empty).

( c.) The C:\swsetup\SP52598\work\ window (which, at this time, contains only the 01444F29.bin file from the HP site).

Now, when I click "Go" in the PhoenixTool window, I'll start seeing work files being created in the C:\swsetup\SP52598\work\ window. As soon as the RSA.sig file gets created, I need to copy it into the USB's \Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current\ window before it gets deleted.

    18. After the PhoenixTool program is finished, I can also copy the 01444F29.bin.DEC file from C:\swsetup\SP52598\work\ window into the USB drive's \Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current\ window.

    19. Rename the two new files which should now be in the USB drive's \Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current\ window:
    ( a.) Rename RSA.sig as 01444.sig
    ( b.) Rename 01444F29.bin.DEC as 01444.bin

    20. Use the "Safely eject" feature to safely eject the USB drive, which should now be ready to resurrect the bricked CQ62.

    21. Disconnect and/or remove the HDD drive from the bricked CQ62z-200. In my situation, this was the only hardware component I actually had to remove. For other computers the situation might be different.

    22. I removed the main battery and power cord from the CQ62 and held the power button down for 30 seconds. In my case I then put the battery back in before restoring the BIOS although that probably wasn't necessary.

    23. Plugged the USB into the CQ62, plugged the power cord in, and held down the Win key and B key before clicking the power button.

    24. Waited until I saw the USB drive's light flash a few times before releasing the Win B key combination. The BIOS restore then ran successfully.

After I was able to successfully reboot the CQ62z-200, I went to the HP website in windows and ran the BIOS flash program from Windows 7 just for good measure. On the next reboot, the HP recovery software wanted to run some kind of startup recovery program on top of that, so I let it run it. At this point I've run Windows Update and a few other updates and the computer appears to be working normally, or as well as it was before.

I hope this summary might be helpful to some future victim of an HP BIOS crash who will have my total empathy and moral support as well for all it's worth lol AS DO YOU ALL! Thanks again I can't say thank you enough :clap::clap3::roll1::thumbsup:

Hello, I have a Presario CQ61-310sd with under the battery: 363F-100. The BIOS has been corrupted but all the solutions I tried didn't work.. I was wandering if I did something wrong? I used the original and oldest version of the BIOS: 363FF03.fd, and tried to change it to

    363FF03.bin
    363F.bin
    0363F.bin
    363F.fd
    0363F.fd

I tried them all separately on a USB and with the winkey + b combination. Only with 363F.bin, the laptop started to beep about one beep per second for about 5 times. After that it started beeping 1 beep per 4 seconds for about 7 times and then nothing.. It didn't reboot by itself and after rebooting it still didn't work.

I also tried using phoenix. I tried the same file names as above with the 363FF03_SLIC.fd file. The only difference I could find with this methods, is that I don't get a RSA.sig file...

    Could someone please help me?

This EFI is not RSA signed so you don't get a sig file.
Have you tried that: 0363F.BIN and copy it to USB drive's \Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current\

Andy's tool reports a recovery name of F.BI? you might try that as well....

    its not RSA encrypted.
it might be different id than on sticker on some occasions. so we have to read the platform.ini for all possibles
it does NOT need the HP UEFI bios environment.
also since its not RSA it likely dose NOT need the 0 in front..oldstyle

the fact that it beeped and tried recovery and failed points to a bad ram stick.
but it could be worse.. the chipset reflow
doubt this model needs but need to research it more.

anyways try one ram stick at a time and try a little newer bios than oldest.

Still doesn't work with 363F.bin, 0363F.bin, 3652.bin and 03652.bin. I also tried to method of using \Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current\. What would the next possible option be? Or might it really be the chipset?...

tried .fd ? also in Previous not just Current.
also try in Root of USB
try resetting cmos by battery removal

try all 4 arrow direction keys for recovery initiation

and i might be wrong .. it might need UEFI in USB .. and the 0 in front , i thought it was older model
