Sorry I don't have the skills to mod the BIOS or UEFI to disable the WiFi / Bluetooth whitelist. I just used the existing mod to update the CPU microcode.
Guman wanted UEFI option, so I made it appear. Sadly, UEFI doesn't work. An additional modification is needed, I think. WLAN whitelist is disabled in this mod, but idk about BT. You tell me if it's there. BT WL can be disabled on demand. Also, logo was changed to HP white/black version. Flashing stock bios is never needed.
The only reason to flash my UEFI mod (which is built on donovan6000's *updated* UEFI mod) is to have the latest CPU microcode after boot up. At the time when I made this, Microsoft was lagging behind in the microcode for Intel 2nd Gen (Sandy Bridge). I believe Windows 10 & 11 will patch it to the latest 0x2F microcode on boot up now. Same goes for any recent Linux. Some ways to check the microcode version: Windows: Use CPU-z and generate a report (About->Save Report) Linux: Run "grep microcode /proc/cpuinfo"
ive cheked it on windows using hwinfo and it's on 2F version. currently running this laptop on linux mint, works far better than on windows, i cant use the dedicated graphics when not in windows 7. Thanks a lot. your post really did help extending the life if this laptop
Not that I can remember. I don't touch the laptop anymore after I gave it to my wife. If you have not done so, I strongly suggest doing a little maintenance (CPU thermal paste and clean out fans). It could be that the CPU is too hot and getting throttled.
thermals are good sir, repasted last week, using arctic mx-6, i just noticed it had a laggy bios when using the no whitelist bios. but the donovan unlocked menus didnt lag. im thinking of re flashing the bios, or is ther a serquence when installing bios. like installing the HP original bios first then installing the modded one?
From what someone else posted, it's best to reflash back to the stock HP BIOS...just make sure to put back the original WiFi card. With that said, reflashing probably won't fix a lag issue...probably just bad BIOS coding. If you're already on donovan6000's updated BIOS (the one with both WiFi and Bluetooth whitelists removed), then I would just leave it alone.
Aside from the laggy bios and long boot time, everything works fine. thanks for your time sir ill update you if anything changes
