    Sony bios mods.

Not very forgiving are they. I warned a few people off in the last thread.

I keep my hands off from Sony..when I'm joking I say to my friends Sony brickO....why not buy a Lenovo or a ASUS Notebook?;)

I'm really sorry anyway, if somebody's Notebook bricks..bgage does a good job. He made a lot of working mods so far. I know that feeling too good. Sometimes I wish to stop all that moddin..but I can't :D;)

Sadly no luck in recovering the bios yet.
Just wondering though, it seems like it reads a DVD-ROM, when i turn it on, just sits there though....

Insyde recovery requires a specific file name...... This probably haven't been done yet, however can anybody see if it is even possible to find out what bios file its looking for within disassembling the bios?

Sony is being awkward about their International Warranty, I hope i can fix it without sending it off to them.

Im guessing that tool is out of date. Since it keeps thinking my bios is not a Insyde Bios.

Ive also tried downloading a insyde bios from sony for another model.... and that program also thinks its not a Insyde bios. Would be good if we can get a up to date program to do it.

So far I got this string when searching the bios :
    Code:
    VGNZ46GD.BIN
    bios-20090430134037.zip
    V60.fd
    KAV60.fd
    30FBF49.FD
    SONYVAIO.RAR
I think it's from ezh2o cache or something... since it search from memory
Don't think it's the right one... so I dissamble without loading ezh20...
can't find .fd or .bin... but I found this :
    Code:
Sony mobile A NB9M-GS VGA BIOS
    Version 62.98.3E.00.18
    G98 Board - nb9m-6e5
    M39MG_26
could you please try M39MG_26 with .bin and .fd and .rom extension... hopefully thats the right one...
meanwhile I keep searching in the bios for something like that

Thanks a lot for your continued help!
Tried the following but none work:
    30FBF49
    KAV60
    M39MG_26
    NB9M-6E5
    NB9M-GS
    SONYVAIO
    V60
    VGNZ46GD

All with .bin and .fd and .rom.
Tried using the FN+Esc and Win+B methods.

Managed to find this string so far :
    Code:
    B0D3F0R40
    B0D31F0RA4
Since your Sony is Vaio VGN-Z46GD and bios revision is R4040M3... have you try :
    Code:
    Sony
    Vaio
    Z46GD
    R4040M3
    VGN-Z4
    BOOT
    RECOVERY
    INSYDE
or maybe some code on the back sticker of your laptop?

Will try to think another possibility.. i.e : check other vgn sony bioses looking for similarity.

Oh, ok, I see it's not the one we are looking for.
That's what I asked caudex from the very beginning but he never answered. I thought the same thing - if his CDRom is working (or USB) it's very possible to do what you propose - autoexec.bat thingy.

    Second though of str8 theory....

    looks like the
    Code:
      ????F??.FD
      |  || ||_|_____ EFI BIOS file
      |  ||_|________ Version number
      |__|___________ Model specific
    maybe for hp laptop...

I already download VGN-Z5 series bios... and the name file is : R2168M3.rom
And the utility isn't flas**t.exe... but WBFLASH.EXE and InsydeFlash.exe... maybe they use a different flasher... But I don't know about the VGN-Z4 series since I can't find a single bios for it...

I think if you wanna try... put the WBFLASH and rename the bios file to R4040M3.ROM or .BIN... because thats the old BIOS revision number... Just a thought
