I like Win7 but i'm not a fan of Win8; I didn't like Vista either, which is why I think I like Win7. I think Microsoft is missing a point: they market to business OR home use and then try to find a middle ground in their various editions. I purpose this model: the consumer picks and chooses freely. For example, there are 100 options to choose from (anything from calculator and paint to superfetch and whatever microsoft's newest antimalware is), beside the absolute necessary services etc; version 1 allows you to choose any 20, version 2 any 50, and version 3 unlimited. Think of the possibilities. At original startup you could simply choose a "default" based on a short 5~10 questionaire, then go from there. If someone wanted to "upgrade" there wouldn't be a reinstall, they would simply enter a new product key and then have more options to install. I shouldn't need Ultimate just to be able to Raid1 is all I'm saying!
too much changes for every "new" windows. missing start menu tree navigation - luckily I can install Classic Shell to get it back. Taskbar "similar programs" grouping - stupid. Missing right-click taskbar to maximize/minimize programs. Vista - add bugs to XP. 7 add more bugs. 8 more and more bugs ? But I'm pretty sure there will be somekind of pro-version that caters for programmers and IT related professionals, where you can switch off the metro UI and get back a normal interface.
Are you joking? Another SKU called windows 8F (felicitous)??? So metro is not a normal interface, lol. You're right with that point it's abnormal.
Well, his comment isn't that bad. From a testing standpoint it makes sense to force users to use the new UI in the release preview, if they had enabled the desktop UI for the alpha/beta releases then most of the people would have tested the desktop UI instead of the Metro UI, which is the one that needs more real-life testing. I think that full desktop will be available for corporate users, to keep big companies happy.
Hey ARCSN, perfect point, i will just enlight: Average Joe will think 10.000 times before Paying(seems Windows 8 is going to cost much more than 7, even the new PC's) to relearn new OS Joe thinks that if he is going to buy Windows, will find new better experience that still has windows..... Ups, Metro has nothing to do with Windows, just a Beautiful name on the DVD cover, that's all..... Once Joe feels offended, hey i bought windows, and i want windows..... Apple finds a Big Gold Door opened on the market, (he is just laughing at M$ decisions... )where it is nowadays rising faster: ARCSN we are two that will skip windows 8
Typical of Microsoft Microsoft has always liked to change things for the sake of change and not necessarily for the sake of improvement. In this case they took a lot of features that people knew how to use and made them more difficult to use.
This could be the perfect timing for Apple to officially release OS X on pc or linux to be massively adopted. But even more important is that developpers SHOULD NOT MAKE METRO APPS, then metro will die quickly.
I'm part of the 40% of "My Digital Life" members that loves Windows 8. I've tested all the previews and since the release preview I've been using it full time. I understand why some of you don't like the new UI but I have no problems with it. I actually enjoy the Metro UI and I use some of the apps daily. I have twelve programs and services pinned to my Taskbar and a few pinned to the Metro start button. I have no problems getting anything done. I've seen those videos of noobs trying Windows 8 and being totally lost so I let my brother try it. My brother is like your average user. He's not clueless about computers but he doesn't always know what to do when something goes wrong so he occasionally calls me. He was a bit lost on Windows 8 at first but then when he figured things out he got really excited. The first thing he said was that Windows 8 worked like his smartphone. He has a Hotmail account so I created a profile for him on my laptop with his live ID and he went nuts playing with the apps. Now he wants Windows 8 on his machine. I'm sure there will be average users out there who don't want Windows 8 once it's final but my brother is an example of an average user who will use it. I tried Windows 8 on my mom but she had no idea what to do. Of course she still gets lost on Windows XP and calls me for help all the time....lol.
i like it,it's fast and the charms page (start) i like also, you can pin anything there,it's just like the old start menu but better, quick access also to each administrative tool,if you want can be pinned there, the people who complain about not finding anything like windows update, can find it,then pin it to the charms bar, easy.
If the charms page is better than START MENU, then I'm the POPE, and my name ain't Joseph Alois Ratzinger...nope. @MonsterMash...you meant 15%
Not everyone uses the Start button the same way whether you are talking about the XP Start button, or the Windows 7 Start button, or the Windows 8 Metro Start button. So it's better for some and worse for others. There is no perfect Start button for everyone. And unless I'm reading the wrong poll, the poll at the top of this page says 40%.
I wrote something, but then i removed it because this is MDL and not some good discussion site, just a site filled with wannabes and noobs and only a few people that can look further than just "now" People don't give any valid information on why the Startscreen slows one down or Metro(a Design language from Microsoft, stop mixing it up please), because it doesnt, if you hate it, it's because a) you don't like change b) you don't like colors c) you don't like how it looks overall d) something i will go at, and also you can just stick to W7, it won't vanish. This is the worst site you can make a poll about Windows 8 anyway, serious discussion about W8 on MDL? Forget it, Trolls&Haters meet here.
You should not claim for seriousity when you are not able to be serious by yourself. Your inability to read all these valid arguments against W8 and the inability to evaluate them for yourself equalizes the level of your post. "because this is MDL and not some good discussion site, just a site filled with wannabes and noobs" Nobody holds you here if you don't like how MDL is administrated. It are the begging-for-leaks M$ fanboys who are annoying here. They would install everything on their PC in the main to be first. And may I remind you that your post is actually off topic. You should be able tolerate everybody's opinion as we tolerate yours. "...just a site filled with wannabes and noobs" To insult I don't tolerate anyway.
Shenj, how can MDL not be a good site to debate things - when R29k is actually quoting G.W. Bush?!?!?!?!?!?!? It doesn't get any better than this!!!
