great post... I think that the current UI of Windows 7 is the max of desktop use, we need to change, and metro comes next. Its part of evolution, or you guys want always that microsoft release a OS with better speed and bug fixes?

    My compliment to all.
We can discuss controversy. I can let the poll run. In the past I sooner or later had to close such a thread, because it went out of control.
Everybody can post his own opinion and we should be able to discuss controversy without to insult.

I have uploaded the smilie :sharepopcorn:

And now pillows for all! :D

I often have to hear that I should be stuck in the past, only because I don't like windows 8.
I don't get such a conclusion, besides of that my profession is to be scientist in a research lab.

I also have read here that some are bored of w7 and hence they like anything new they can get.
Maybe they should make their life more interesting in being active AWAY from the PC!

Why w7 became that fast boring??? Because it's made by M$. Do you think w8 will be interesting a longer time?
Isn't the reason that w7 is not much customizable?
Isn't it the reason that M$ always fails to make their OS attractive?
Isn't it the reason why there is only M$ that offers a OS for PCs??

Do you really need w8? I mean really?
Or do we need competition to have more than m$'es 'updates'

Is it normal to buy always the same thing from the same company???
Do you get your PC always from the same store? Do you buy always the same brand????

So why should I buy any OS from m$? To keep them making bored OSes???

I need a corporate OS on a PC to work. I actually don't have time for metro apps.
The workflow should be fast and familiar......end of story.

When I need fun I get tablets /mobiles which are running Android.

M$ tries with w8 to dominate both....the productive customer will punish them therefore, they will skip it for sure.
At tablets /mobiles they are too late, they missed the app-age there. (Unless they let money talk and break local laws as they did already in the EU with their IE and WMP embedding)

I much rather join the free open source Android community than to support a fat monopolist that has stolen everything.

It's off topic, but as Yen has brought it up I will say it any way: OPEN SOURCE SUCKS DONKEY BALLS. Open Source OSes are incredibly fugly, boring and unattractive compared to Microsoft's beautiful, elegant, smooth, gorgeous and productive UIs. Open Source is like Communism -- pathetic, boring and nobody likes it apart from a select few. On the other hand, Microsoft is like capitalism -- popular, rich and enjoyable.

Microsoft is the greatest company on the planet. We are privileged for being able to use Microsoft's incredible products every single day. I will continue to use Microsoft products all my life.

since it is as you say off topic,
i feel i may react, unhindered by
    any knowledge of w8.,,
well. my friend, you could not be
    more WRONG

there is a real need to support open source!
your beautiful, elegant, smooth, gorgeous and productive
os is going to give you a pain in the neck.

the greatest company on the planet is going to
restrict your options by putting more and more
restrictions in your bios, and you won`t even know,,

^You know that's the kind of FUD from the open-source enthusiasts that makes me hate Open Source so much. It's just like what the Communists tried to preach to its people about Western society.

UEFI is NOT a Windows 8 feature. It's an international standard which Windows 8 chose to include as a feature. Microsoft NEVER wants to conspire against the customer as the open-source advocates would like you to believe. Of course, if you try to STEAL their products through piracy, they are going to do whatever possible to stop that. But none of the conspiracy theories against them has ever been proven.

Open source is full of fear-mongering and lies. It tries to brainwash people just like communists. That's why we should all boycott Open Source like I have been doing all my life. Open Source and Communism needs to die. Closed Source and Capitalism FTW.

You are parrotting M$, I bet you know nothing about UEFI. M$ and Intel are the major members of the UEFI forum. So does it then matter if it's a feature of w8 or not?

What has politics / communism to do with it? You are arguing like an previous US American president.....if you shouldn't know it the cold war has ended a long time ago already!

IMHO you like to be restriced, because you cannot handle freedom, you feel good, because you are not alone.
Why losing track / topic of this thread when you have no arguments left?

I guess he knows that it isn't RTM yet. Why do you think so?

:laie: That is funny you really don't seem to understand a thing you are talking about and on top of that you need a "tin foil" hat. You are actually advocating something that is closed and costly over something that is open and free.
I have an app err a quote for that.

You're mostly right with those you said, and of course I didn't meant "stuck in the past" in a bad way, but you know... technology has to evolve :( and it has it's ups and downs, if you think about it, Windows 7 got the same reception, most guys wouldn't upgrade from XP and Vista to Windows 7, and why? Well.... because it was NEW, the same thing is happening to Windows 8, to good part is that Windows 8 is faster, more fluid, and it has that natural touch interface which is much more responsive than in Windows 7. Windows 8 is a Developer Preview and i still get less BSOD's than I got with Windows 7 Beta. And of course, nobody pressures you to upgrade from 7 to 8, I still have friends that use XP, there are times when I'm like "Oh come on, get rid of that eXPired OS, and put Vista, 7 or 8" :)) but I don't really mean it (actually I do). Windows XP is so 2002... and most of the latest games won't work on XP because they need DirectX10. I'm sorry that past threads got out of control and I hope this one won't, this will probably be my last post because there's not much more to say, at least not from my perspective. It's as you said: "Everybody can post his own opinion and we should be able to discuss controversy without to insult." And if you think about it, Windows 7 didn't became that fast boring... Vista got even faster :)) in a few years probably, Microsoft will announce a new OS, with new features, probably a new redesigned interface... that's what they do, they're like you said again... "monopolist" company and they need money like we need a new OS (even through not everybody needs a new OS). I hope I didn't insult anyone with my posts :) I'll leave you now, anyway... I don't know why I got up so early in the morning hahaha.

i actually tried windows vista x64 today,it really was not that bad,no bsod's at all,it's actually pretty fluid and really responsive, the only reason i thought it was crap is because of other so called " technology experts" reviews, about what a failure it was,so today i learned to not go by what others say until you actually try it out yourself.Me myself have been guilty of hating and bashing on internet explorer browser and discouraging people from using IE, ultimately,I should not be doing that, how do i know if it suits other people or not,it might be great for them

I avoided vista for a while after what it turned into in the end, when in dev stages it was going to be fantastic. I agree that it was not nearly as bad as people bashed it out to be. Somethings however, we're truely broken and never ever fixed. Thankfully one of the two annoyances I had with vista was eliminated before win7 6801..

Windows 8 WDP when it first came out, yes, I was rather annoyed with many things. Some of those things have been fixed already, some have not. Many of the changes in appearance and navigation seem to be foreign at first, but like all things, once you have enough hands on time, you quickly acclimate to the new style and soon you appreciate how things are. Much like how I now appreciate the consolidated start menu in win7 over xp/vista, when I was a major basher of the win7 start menu.

Soon the time will be when you hop on a windows 7 pc and you will have the same disorientation you have now when you hop on a pc that runs xp.

Don't be worried, your posts are fine and nice. You have posted your opinion and have argued why you think so. :) I respect your opinion since you stay on topic while other posts are just embarrassing. (The bad communist Yen will kill you all, lol)

    @jayblok
The recent situation of Vista is not comparable with the time when it had been signed off for RTM.

Guess how many percent of the original RTM code is still present? Also when released there was no real support of the OEMs. Lack of running drivers and the 64 bit era. Additionally Vista is / was a hungry OS which wastes resources.
Most hardware needed to be upgraded to run it properly. And RTM had major issues. (File copy speed for instance)
And the poor attempt of M$ to make it stylish, called dream scene.
Also they took customers for a ride by promising ultra edition extras, those who bought it are still waiting for them.
    It's been a rip-off just like w8 will be when RTM'ed.

Vista isn't much worse than w7 now.

Any drastic change upsets the most people

    This is natural;

If you are used every day to use the same tool to work,
and after a while having to change your way of working because
changed the tool you will wonder,

For businesses, change the habit or tool that is suicide, :sniper:

    For home users may not.

We need to evolve, not regress. Evolve means to improve at all points of view
    and leave no please.

    I think we can expect many things also, for example manually disable Metro;
    So most people would like

Difficult to migrate from Office 2003 to Office 2010, but over time got to work ...

:busted_cop: alert! changes are coming :busted_cop:

Note: M $ is monopolist, if you make any change, is to call attention;
M$ not going to shoot yourself in the foot (Need Money)

I don't fear changes. The contrary is true. It's time for a real change. We need another company that makes a new OS for PCs.
I don't hate M$ (probably some think I'd). I hate that I have no choice. There was OS/2 made by IBM, but they had no chance, money talks, innovation never had a real chance. Monopoly and innovation cannot co-exist.

I think M$ isn't competent and has crappy ideas what people really need. They infact don't care how customers work with a PC, they embed what they think brings most of the money.
They don't have geniuses and intuition. They cannot figure the needs of an employee that has to work with their OS.

    @Yen

    I totally agree
I am constantly infuriated by popups asking things like, Confirm, Something exists, do you really want to move thumbs.db.
There should be a power user mode where these suggestions do not happen. To me, it seams a knee jerk reaction (treat the user as an idiot) to the exploits that have hit M$ OS'S and it's really completely the wrong solution.

Also when IE stops working and it's asks to restore your last sessions and..... it stops working again. Ok,,,,, it's the website at fault but for most the user experience is terrible and looking at W8 posts I can't see it getting any better because W8 is just W7 with a new UI layer over the top to make it look like current smart phones.

And @M$ don't steal Apples ideas again.

And I think W8 will be the next Vista. You get it on new machines and then try to downgrade.

Vista SP2 is good not the RTM that is garbage, it is no different from XP the RTM was garbage too the SP1 was a nightmare for a lot of people with crashed PCs it was until SP2 that it got decent. Win 7 RTM is shocking since it actually works very well, which happens to be a first for Microsoft. :p
