    clarification

OK, so please excuse the slowness in understanding (I am a network admin, not a firmware programmer) but am I correct in thinking that I have no recourse but to wait for Lenovo to release an official update for this box?

If there's a good program which can dump the BIOS effectively, I'll be happy to use it. I guess I'm stuck fighting with a tiny bit of buyer's remorse but on the whole I guess I still like my Lenovo.

No problem. I'm no bios programmer, too. Not even a programmer. It's just a hobby. In short yes, you have to wait for a biosupdate.
You may dump the bios yes and I could have a look if I would be able to remove the whitelist check or at least to add your card's IDs.
But at Phoenix you aren't be able to re-flash it again. You need additional data to flash it again. It's usually provided at biosupdate by Lenovo....

Go to the Lenovo support site. Choose your model, download the biosversion next to last. Flash it and after it, flash the mod.

Windows 7 Ultimate OEM for Lenovo R60 - Activated

    Thanks a lot Yen,

After i used the opatool it is now activated :D. I thought i just had to flash the BIOS and use the OEM key and it will be automatically activated before but i guess not.

Which tools do you use to MOD the BIOS? I would like to learn how to do it myself if you don't mind.

X40 mod from Yen works perfect!

A few posts ago, Yen kindly made a mod for X40 and it works!

I had to downgrade my bios first because Thikpad's bios update program does not allow updating bios to same version already installed. I downgraded with unmodded bios from lenovo site.

I installed W7 and a lenovo cert - tried several of them to find right one - it works. :)
