Thanks, but no luck. When I go into the BIOS and try to disable the system password, it asks me to enter the current password. When I tried the first two passwords above, I got an "invalid password" error. The third password was too long and I couldn't even enter the whole thing before being met by a bunch of beeps. Any other ideas?
what is the bios version ?? is the keyboard QWERTY or DVORAK ? tried holding CTRL Enter after typing the pwd ? got a usb flash stick ? not all work but sandisk do for sure to Perform the USB recovery method.
The full system number is 469BWD1-3A5B. The BIOS version is A16 and the keyboard is QWERTY. I tried doing control-enter, but the passwords previously posted still didn't work.
Good catch. I wonder why they changed it...or was that the HDD password fix (remember they screwed up something)?
they wanted to keep security as good as possible to try to win gov contracts to sell them hardware. but u might be right also.
Okay, hope you guys will help me through this one. I had hoped it would be easy to get a working password from the 469BWD1-3A5B system tag, but it looks like I’ll have to do it the hard way. So…. I downloaded the A11 BIOS from here: downloads.dell.com/bios/D830_A11.EXE I opened a command prompt, pointed to my downloads directory and ran the command D830_A11.EXE /writehdrfile This created a file in my downloads directory called “D830_A11.hdr” Not sure where to go from here, unfortunately. Do I load that file onto a USB drive and then boot from the USB drive? Do I follow the instructions posted by @LatinMcG above? Appreciate your help.
Do I need to do anything to the usb flash drive before I copy DAWSA11.HDR onto it? Does the usb drive need to be bootable? If so, is there a certain image you recommend using for this purpose to make it bootable?
no just fat32 and no other hdr files. plug in to pc . no battery or power cord.. hold END and power.. then plug in power cord. let go 5 seconds or so after power on. battery led starts blinking. if no blinking green orange.. then try a different usb port.. or USB storage device try A14
