I just found an 1.8 IDE external enclosure. I just want to verify before I purchase it, if I make it an external drive, will I be able to access/fdisk/low level format the disk so I can use it? Because as far as I research the password is inside the Hard Disk.

    Security:
Master password revision code = 65534
    supported
    enabled
    locked

    [root@localhost ~]# hdparm --user-master u --security-unlock p
    /dev/sdc security_password="p" /dev/sdc:
    Issuing SECURITY_UNLOCK command, password="p", user=user
    SECURITY_UNLOCK: Input/output error

    [root@localhost ~]# hdparm --user-master u --security-disable p
    /dev/sdc security_password="p" /dev/sdc:
    Issuing SECURITY_DISABLE command, password="p", user=user
    SECURITY_UNLOCK: Input/output error

    [root@localhost ~]# hdparm --user-master u --security-unlock tttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt
    /dev/sdc security_password="tttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt" /dev/sdc:
    Issuing SECURITY_UNLOCK command, password="tttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt", user=user
    SECURITY_UNLOCK: Input/output error

    My Hard Disk is:
    Samsung

    HDD P/N: HS08XJC/D

Btw, I have downloaded UltimateBootCD but none of the tools there was able to detect the HD and wasn't able to unlock it. Aside from hdparm, I have tried nwipe (dwipe) but it error out around 4 hours of running... shred also work but still didn't unlock it.
