As far as I can tell there are some real legal challenges in regulation given the many varieties of the plant and it's many uses.

example lets say you have a farmer who grows cannabis to sell for making cloth or oil. Good right? But what if the variety has both the qualities of making good cloth but also has a high THC count.

This is a legal nightmare for regulators .. That's why it has sat in limbo for so long and driven underground until the last 10 years or so. As a crop as a medicine the big questions .. The plant has so many uses let's not lose sight of that and the protracted debate sidelines it's many gifts.

The qualities are gained due to crossbreed. Cannabis which is used because of the fibers has another shape. They have low THC values but its biochemical predecessor is present.

There had been agricultural subsidies from the government for farmers who grow fiber hemp. Where I live you can see big fields of fiber hemp. But 3 years ago there had been many many more.
Fiber hemp is usually cut before it blooms.
I think regulation is not that difficult. We have one plant, but different parts / products.
marijuana is the name for the unfertilized female flowers. Cannabis is dioecian. The male plant does not produce marijuana. A fertilized female flower rapidly loses THC.
The clue to get a high THC is to kill the male flowers which are blooming 4 weeks earlier so they cannot fertilize the females... :D
The nature's goal is to survive by fertilization. So the female flower is producing more resin (= THC) to catch male pollen....but there are no....:D

For fiber production there are special seeds and the farmer can / has to cut before they bloom.
To hide the THC clones in the fields is possible, anyway you will not get good quality marijuana due to fertilization of male fiber hemp flowers.

So the 'criminalizing' laws here are not made for cannabis sativa, but for the female flowers only and their seeds.
Fiber hemp seeds are available through the agricultural subsidies from authorized dealers already....

@Yen growing chiles/peppers  the fine art of coaxing the most out of a plant. It is good to know that where you live they are allowing agricultural Hemp .. In the U.S. still no go as far as I know .. Here the dialogue is primarily on medicinal use and the labs necessary to regulate standards .. It still has such a long way to go here in some ways for the many gifts to emerge .. I still think no commercialization is best however I know that is probably fantasy .. The home gardener :hug2::thumbsup:

I always had a close relation to plants. :hug2:. They are so beautiful and graceful, they cannot move, they have to be satisfied with their only place / situation. And they do....we can learn much from them. To be satisfied with that what currently IS.

And you can see it growing, what all actually had been in the seed already....
I remember the time when I had grown cannabis, I got the seeds from birdseed.
Propagation bed, to prick out....to harvest.
To measure, to separate, to analyze, to discuss with friends. To experience the actions in body....and mind.

I took the chance to combine science with nature and action in human, I loved to be a independent home 'scientist', doing own experiments with absolutely no commercial interest.
When I was even younger I started a project how environmental toxins are influencing growth of plants.
I reported at school....and we discussed the results....

ATM I am sitting in my lab. And reply here during different work steps.
I cannot talk which plant it is (secret of company)....but it's an old traditional plant which has also CNS activity.
It is indigenous in Europe and West Asia and North Africa.

It had been used in the dark age. And it had been held in high esteem already in the Greek and Roman antiquity.

They believed it has the ability to banish bad ghosts, so it was planted in monastery and church herbal gardens.
It is was used to cure black visions and nightmares.

And it is reported that roe deer have eaten it when injured and traumatized (hunted by natural predators) for self-medication....

Isn't that fascinating? To read old lore, to immerse in old traditions, to work with the plant right here. To apply the methods of the 21st century, to evaluate the actions.
To have a look if that old treasure can be re-available to us......this is my job.:)

The different steps in a lab are often boring, honestly spoken. But the job itself is great. I can work with the nature….I can be scientist, I can be involved in traditions……I can be.

Cannabis research had been never a subject of research at the company where I work.
    The laws kept them away...
OK, we used low THC cannabis one time to isolate a precious substance for reference (not CNS active)...

So I had made my own private when I was 23.

Today I am fascinated of Capsaicin, the substance that makes everything hot and why there is the impression of pain and 'hot'.........and if there is something hotter than capsicum chinense.
They are so colorful and nice shaped, each is different, there are even white chilies, and black and brown and purple....

I am off.... back to work...:hug2:

    Oh btw: @all
Have you ever asked youself why plants are creating substances which have an action (at the CNS of) in humans, substances which have no use for the plant itself?
What is the purpose at all? And why can THC alter consciousness that much? Is there a sense?

Ahem, no. It's my natural condition. Do you think I need professional help now? :D:biggrin::)

To write in a way that is not conform to common mind patterns might appear to be on 'something'.
Since the beauty of reality is beyond mind, we have for instance art to express and to overcome the mind.

    Flowers
    By Wendy Videlock

    They are fleeting.
    They are fragile.
    They require

    little water.
    They’ll surprise you.
    They’ll remind you

    that they aren’t
    and they are you.

Try to 'understand' that with your mind. Can you? I cannot.
Are you touched by this? If yes then you have overcome your mind. I am touched. If you are not then try another piece of art, painting or music or sculpture, or generally something you deeply love.... wherever your mind has a weakness to let shine through the beauty of reality.

The same happens at some people when smoked weed. They overcome the mind then but rapidly. And to some it is that strange (because they build on their mind) that they get "panic attacks" or even worse (psychosis or "onset of psychosis") from a single use of marijuana."...that what you have mentioned already....one should not take away what one still needs....and much less if the one is strongly identified with and not ready. One's fixed idea of oneself.

No I have not tried that herbal I am researching by myself.

I respect it and I do not suffer from something it could heal....

You're forgetting you're talking to a Philosopher... :D I can understand anything - on my own, no "flower (or was it flavour?) enhancers" needed!!! I leave that to Chemists... :D

Moreover, I also studied Phonetics and "stylistics" was something we studied, too... ;) Besides, no "dichotomy" allowed: we are one and not two or three separate...

Whatever... You know what I mean: mind, soul - all one and the same, residing in the same body and the same brain, no need for mystification...

Moreover, many artists have contributed to helping understanding their work and take away the aura of mystery...

We may not pretend we know everything but we know a lot about the artistic process...

We do not need to know everything, in order to escape the mystifying thing...

Hope you understand... ;) Even with your "heart"... :)

Why do you create / determine something (mystifying thing...) of which you later try to escape. To me it would be a waste of time.:D

"Hope you understand... Even with your "heart"... "

    I do. :)

Wow. I support the legalization but most of you stoner quacks are obsessed with this idea of BIG PHARMA and evil corporations and whatnot. Cannabis in the scheme of things isn't that harmful. Links between long term mental health disorders and chronic abuse of it though, have been observed and its effects are still being investigated. It's not totally harmless, but it's not much more harmful than the things we have avaliable to us today like cigarettes and alcohol, I'd imagine. But it's not a wonder drug, and it undermines the efforts of the legalization for liberal reasons (it doesn't have magical effects/isn't totally devoid of risk). I want it to be legalized because I think it's the invidiauls choice if they want to consume it, given that current medical information suggests it's relatively nonrisky.

    That's a good argument but
Good health grows through humble abstract beauty , The Higgs boson reflects immortal silence , The secret of the universe fascinates subjective positivity , Each of us is a unique manifestation of the total universe , The light of the universe carries cosmic memory , Wholeness is beyond your own marvel , Quantum physics differentiates into a symphony of actions , Nature is an ingredient of quantum life , The mind heals universal space time events , The web of life serves unparalleled timelessness , Culture is the path to self-righteous facts , In the deeper reality beyond space & time we are members of one body and one mind , Consciousness, creativity, orderliness, wholeness, and evolution are inherent in the cosmos and within us , Mind body and world exist in awareness alone , Descriptions of physical reality are in actuality descriptions of modes of human observation in human consciousness and The only existential truth is awareness

    So I win the debate.

I think he was being satirical. See his signature, it contains a generator for such quotes. I think it was meant of a parody of all the deep philosophical arguments that the stoner nuts are presenting. I mean I came to this thread and saw as usual people spewing complete misinformation in the name of cannabis legalization (apparently Polio is a cure, not a disease, according to the first few pages)
