Netscape is another keyword for 'Another one was first, M$ destroyed innovation by monopoly (enforcing IE against EU laws) and capitalism because they had to due of inability'... How many times must this repeat? I came from 68000 architecture and stuck to it as long as I could..the first own X86 was a Pentium.....the 68 architecture was better than 80X, UNIX better than DOS, DOS was better than w3.11 for gaming.....OS2/warp was better than windows, a long time the Intelx86/M$ monopoly retarded any innovation. Now with ARM / mobiles, tablets and Linux 'distros' we can leave it behind... With turning off WU on w7 (the only way without to make much efforts), w7 becomes vulnerable sooner or later...
m$ may be very smart... but i will be very surprised if they manage to infect my w7 desktop that i took off-line..
I can sort of understand why people who like 7 would be dragging their feet, but 8.xx has nothing to make it superior to 10. If you really miss the full time metro experience on your PC/Laptop just put it in tablet mode. And since all the "their spying on me!!!" functionality is being shoehorned into 7 and 8.xx, any other arguments are pointless as well.
I haven't unplugged (because they have to be connected for everything else), but I have turned off updates - and I'm curious what'll happen there. I've seen several times in the past that a machine with turned off updates somehow some way has updates turned back on with no user interaction whatsoever. I'm almost doing it as a dare just to see how far they'll go. I also wonder if the further forcing has any dependency on the telemetry updates having already been installed; any 7 machine I maintain has none of those updates (see sig). I wonder if the things they're doing relies on one (or more) of those updates as the switch to flip. I almost want to turn updates back on with one of my machines and just see what happens. Unfortunate thing is, I just bought 2 Lenovo 100S minibooks and they come with 10, and no drivers are available for 7 so I'm stuck with it. I don't mind 10, I don't trust it worth a sh*t but I don't mind it, it's a good, lean OS. But I'd be lying if I didn't say I wish I could put 7 on this thing.
Don't worry the MS police will break in while you are asleep and manually upgrade for your convenience
I don't get it. This is never going to come in as a "critical" or a "security" update, and those are the only types of updates that warrant automatic installation. Of course you're going to get the upgrade nags if you have WU set to install "recommended" updates automatically, but that's probably not the correct way to set it up. Let it auto-install security updates and decide anything else for yourself. The idea of allowing WU to install anything MS wants you to and then manually trying to get rid of the crap you didn't want is ridiculous.
I still have my IE4 install CD, LOL. I still from time to time put it in and listen to the catchy install tune it always give. With the message, The Web The Way You Want It. LOL. Windows 95 with IE4 & Active Desktop. Damn how old we are now, LOL.
Arguments pointless?..... never as long as they are calm and civil. As for spying, well that is all over the net with just about everything you do say or use and we go to great lengths to minimize that. Big bucks are spent and made by programs to help to protect us. We go and buy a computers with operating systems that tell us they will help keep us safe. We all feel warm and fuzzy inside. That is until now, along comes Win10 and M$ making a 180 degree turn. Collecting all kinds of information, keylogger programs, forcing upgrades to Win10, Forcing install of updates, forcing install of drivers, and the list goes on and will get larger. This is all done to make a better operating system, at least that is what M$ says!! This now becomes an operating system that can not be trusted, at least not by me. I did not spend all my money on a computer to be told what I can and can't do with it. Or have things added or deleted as they see fit. Think about that. Now lets say that you go and buy a new car. You don't like the exhaust system. You take it to some muffler shop and spend big bucks to have one of those loud and noisy systems put on. Now your happy and feel like a race car driver. Time goes by and you have to take it in to the dealer and have an oil change. They see the exhaust and determine that that is no good for your car so they rip it off and put the stock one back on. Would you be a happy camper when you picked up your car?? I think not!! Now as for the spying and collecting of information that the people (people that are all for Win10) say or think is harmless and M$ does not want my banking password. I think they are right. M$ does not want it, they have enough money and don't need my mere pittance. But wait, who could benefit from such information?? After all they have a keylogger program, they collect information as to where I go on the net and all to better the operating system. Who could benefit let me think about that. Couple of things come to mind. How about an unhappy employee that works for M$ and sees all the money M$ makes while he/she makes just enough money each week to just get by. Banking information can be a good profit maker for someone, by either someone using it or selling it to someone who will. And M$ has built in a lot of spy things in Win10 to help improve it. And I kind of believe that. But how long do you think it will take a good hacker out there, to exploit that. The way I see it as M$ has done half their work for them. And we know how good the Windows operating system is by so few updates to secure the system For those that love Win10, more power to them and I am happy for them. But for me I'm not going there,,,,,,,, as I sit here wearing my tinfoil hat
So in 8 months all the data mining will end on Win10 and they will leave Win7 users alone?? I can count on this.. right??
Nah I don't think so, from what I heard Microsoft will still nag people to upgrade even once the free offer ends. This info comes from supposedly a MS employee that's on a Swedish tech forum, or at least he acts like an Microsoft employee because he tells everyone to upgrade to Windows 10 and hates the rest that despise Windows 10.
Seems like, more and more South Park is getting what is happening, right. I wonder whats behind of this forced update, cause, most of us dont want to update and we dont have any interest to doing so.
they must see money in it, just i wonder where..they will get us hopping mad by those methods. even if we are the minority of users..
