    Improved phoenix tutorial with pics

    Look below for a updated version of the phoenix version of making your own bios with pictures. I've Tested this from Original Bios and modded step by step (CONFIMED WORKING) with my R3000 laptop. hopefully this will help some to understand how to mod their own bios

    You used a "HPQOEMSLIC-CPC" SLIC but the RSDT table you used was "HPQOEMSLIC-MPC".

    Yes, other than that it look correct. A sure way to know is to make the correction and reflash and see if it activates.

    its the same for both
    HP = "HPQOEMSLIC-MPC"
    HEX = 48 50 51 4F 45 4D 53 4C 49 43 2D 4D 50 43
    OEMCERT CRC = 573FCB8E

    COMPAQ = "HPQOEMSLIC-MPC"
    HEX = 48 50 51 4F 45 4D 53 4C 49 43 2D 4D 50 43
    OEMCERT CRC = 573FCB8E

    I reflashed using Winplash16.exe and now it says its activated. Should i be ok?

    Some words of caution when using PBE.
    • It may not always decompress the bios correctly. Decompress it several times and compare the file sizes. If there is a difference, the larger size is USUALLY the correct one.
    • It may decompress it correctly but may not always build it correctly.

    I would like to add something about the flashing procedure....
    Always flash phoenix bioses from pure DOS using the latest phlash16.
    Flash like this:
    phlash16 bios.rom/wph

    Switches list:
    BBL = Program Boot Block
    BU = Backup curent bios
    C = Clear CMOS
    S = Silent Mode (speaker off)
    X = Ignore XMS memory manager check

    In the most cases /x /s /c will do the job.
    If you want the boot block to be programed as well /BBL
    /mode = n
    BTW, there are other switches available, type phlash16 /? to check.

    If you manage to decompress, modify and rebuild this Dell (gx240a05.exe), you would be first one..............by creating the *.rom you'll get the STILL compressed biosfile. Some bioses, like Lenovo are interleaved. So you have to extract, extract and expand, rebuild... (e.g. *.img--->*.FL2----->*.wph/rom---->decopressed bin files, modules)

    But congratulations, you did your Phoenix bios.:) Keep it up!

    hopefully I quoted you right, because i keep getting yelled at about it. Anyways thanks. if it werent for someone modding my first bio
    s to use as a reference, Then I would never have learned how to do Phoenix. now that i've got phoenix is ami harder or easier? I usually use the autopathers for AMI and AWARD.. She some light to making it easy. I know I've tried everything with this dell. Seems we need DellDeco.exe. I tried uniflash, And all the command lines, and backup ideas on the net. Seems only was is Jtag and flash back with a Programmer.

    Help with ami bios

    Can someone give me a step by step guide to modding THIS ami bios?
    I just learned how to do Phoenix, but this one seems french. I've downloaded the INTEL2AMI utility and thats is far as I am

    Intel D915GAV. I know its already modded but I want to mod it so it has Compaq Slic because my Cd is OEM. I want to lean AMI but it looks french to me. A Step by step like I posted for the Phoenix would be Awsome.
