i did read somewhere on other threads that windows 8.1 won't support installation from split wim's, did you ever tried install the os with split wim's??
No, This is about the upcoming new toolkit which is yet to be published, it's almost complete, just need to do code optimization. may be by next week it will be released.
Hello , would you consider creating an option remove all but store? thanks for all your great work your putting into this project
I have all of the Metro applications entirely removed via DISM, including the Camera, Store, Spydrive, Spype... everything. My user picture can be changed just fine. In three weeks so far I've not seen a single side effect.
Yes, Every app can be removed but there are issues with the photos app.. this photos apps is tied up with windows photo viewer, when the photos app is removed, the windows photo viewer is completely removed. unless someone can make a list of dependent files required for windows photo viewer to work properly, I won't be including the option to remove photos apps. these the folders that should be retained for windows photo viewer : Program Files\Windows Photo Viewer Program Files (x86)\Windows Photo Viewer (For 64-bit) rest we need to find out, may be someone can help out..
actually that's not true at all, I used dism and a little tool I found on the net called install_wim_tweak....I unhid all apps, I removed everything like store, camera, photos, etc, I am using 8.1 right now without any metro apps, when you do this, the os auto makes default windows photo viewer, it never got uninstalled so I am confused, lol
Well am too using the same install_wim_tweak.exe to unhide the package, but when the "Microsoft-Windows-PhotoBasicPackage" removed it also removes the windows photo viewer along with photos metro apps
Well it was my mistake, I thought the package "Microsoft-Windows-PhotoBasicPackage" was the package name for the Default Metro Photos App But, in reality it was the Metro App OneDrive (SkyDrive) that removes the Default Metro Photos App. So, everything works fine with all the apps removed now, the only app that exists is the "PC Settings" that I think we must retain for the system settings.
Hi, are you willing to share the dism commands you use to remove all the metro apps from the install.wim? A second question i have is if there is a way to integrate the nvidia gforce drivers into the install.wim. I succeed with the windows update package, but nvidia already released newer drivers. And just extracting the .exe and integrating it does not seem to work.
Thank you for the quick reply! What exactly does the wimtweak do? It does not hexedit or break signed files?
wimtweak can unhide and also remove the hidden packages from windows (online/offline). it will not break or hex edit the signed files but rather it alters the registry to have access to hidden packages.
I have been using windows 8.x without metro stuffs so far I haven't had any issues with the os function but if you have found any issues with the removal of metro apps, please do list those issues and also if possible provide solutions to those issues. I don't know whether even after the removal of windows store apps does those services & tasks do exists but I will check them and will later provide the necessary tweaks to disable them.
I agree 100%, I haven't had 1 bit trouble with other services or weird errors, to be honest its not something to worry about
