yeah, but likely is a tiny package, and is not enabled by default, so nothing to gain in RAM/CPU usage, little to gain in reducing the ISO/WIM size
@MSMG, i have request for MSMG Toolkit, can u please make option to disable / remove Windows Services? Thanks
@FriedTempe why would you want an option like that, when toolkit has an option to edit the images registry? that's where services are located where you can set options?
Because i dont know how to do it, im not as smart as u. Can u tell me how to disable windows services using MSMG Toolkit? And tell me which Windows 11 services are safe to disabled?
how to disable services through toolkit mounted registry hi, @FriedTempe i'm not as smart as you. I have never clamed to have been. with your image mounted. 7,tools 3 options. 4 load image registry after toolkit has done that, on your host system, launch regedit. then go to the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ under there you will find the mounted reg image, labeled with the tk prefix, example: TK_DEFAULT. now, I believe the service location is as folows. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\TK_SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services. if you wish to disable a service find it's name. like AppIDSvc it's startup type is set to 3 which I believe is manual. if you set it to 4, that will mean disabled. so how to find that service go to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\TK_SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\AppIDSvc in there you will find a load of enteries, the bit you are looking for is start when you find it, press enter on it and change the value to 4 which means disabled. 4 means disabled 3 means manual 2 means automatic 1 means system start 0 means boot start I hope this is of help to you. I am sorry to say I don't use windows 11, I'm on windows 10. windows 11 seems to be a dumpster fire of mishmashed components, i'm sure you can tell I don't like it. so services you should disable? I am unable to assist you with your quest. sorry! I hope this helps? the bit write at the top is incase anyone uses search on the forum thread in future.
Thanks for ur help, i agree with u, windows 11 is su*k, but its interface look good, i also prefer windows 10, but im trying to make my install.wim atleast for 2 years, i dont want to get oldfashioned with the os, and dont want to debloat it everytime i want to use it, so i guess lil busy with windows 11 install.wim for 2 years usage worth the headache... i guess... and s*it it really give me headache... alots..
@FriedTempe if i were you, I would wait for the next version of toolkit with the windows update removal support and make a new image. with the wu components removed. no chance of the install getting scupperd. you can doo an inplace upgrade to the next edition of windows via another custom iso made with a future version of toolkit.. Majid
MSMG next update will have Windows Update removal? Wow thats great... cant wait for it... thanks majid
@FriedTempe An interesting thing for you to see, knowing the names of the services and searching for .reg files to disable the services is: open gpedit (not for home editions) and read the services there. Deactivate, reactivate, break the system (hehehe). Then with the names of the services noted down you can search how to disable with reg file. About importing your .reg files, explore the custom folder, inside it there is a tree of folders for you to place your custom .reg files. With the image in service (being edited) you can use the Customize Menu which has an option to import Log Files. I think it's simpler than using the Tools Menu that was suggested by our friend @mhussain.
I dont see gpedit in my windows, i am using home edition.. my laptop cant handle windows pro.. i am also not in need for the extra things windows pro offered... i am just a regular user, using my 4GB ram laptop only for school works.. I just wondering how come u guys are so smart about computer, u guys know alots, i feel like a stupid in front of u guys
hi @MSMG a question you may find interesting. so we have OOBENetworkCaptivePortal OOBENetworkConnectionFlow are there more components that you could remove from oobe? examples the privacy questions page? the 3 questions page. where you are asked where your parents met etc is this possible? since they should not have any change on a customized image? the privacy page at least... Majid
You can find a professional to home port of gpedit. I saw this somewhere. I don't remember where anymore. Do a search and you'll find it too. When I started I had experience with data maintenance and recovery, I didn't know much about customizing ISOs. So, I took advantage of the pandemic's idleness (decline in trade) to focus and learn. I learned a lot here.
@inTerActionVRI would it not be possible to export the group policy packages from a server build and install it on the home edition? I say server edition, because the client editions of windows the packages are mostly merged. microsoft desktop required package etc. hence my query Unless there's a way of decuppling the individual packages from the merged package? Majid
a general query. why are packages merged in client builds? I think 1809 was the last build where all packages are decuppled? correct me on that if I am wrong. sorry for going off topic
Time to move to something less harmful... That's not true. Home Is full of trash, is the heaviest Windows SKU. So if your PC can run Home, it can run any other version. You needed gpedit and is not in home. So looks like you need something better than Home, after all....
If I'm not mistaken Win32Calc was exported by MSMG from some server. I would know just get the executable and copy it in the same place inside the home. But it exported already exists. As I said, I don't remember where I saw it. But a simple search is found.
