so the error message about telemetry and defender removal. was an issue with iso/wim file used. used the official 1803 iso and used WinReducer ESD - Wim Converter to make correct wim file for iso. all is good again. the esd to wim in msmg didn't seem to handle this instance, but probably because of the iso i used
I use MSMG toolkit to make a "clean" iso. I work for a very big school district, one of the responsibilities I've taken it upon myself is to make the district wide windows image. we used to turn off/disable things via GPO and registry tweaks. but as time went on. MS made this harder and harder MSMG toolkit is the only thing I've found that works. we keep a very striped down windows install. since were dealing with kids/students and of course staff members who would click on bad things like windows store and store things if we could afford a Windows 10 LTSB license we would go that route. but that is EXTREMELY expensive
Seems a problem of you. Tested on "W10 Pro 1803 x64 es-ES" and works fine. Could check that Toolkit v8.5 shows as 8.4, though.
@MSMG In the list of all Xbox components to be removed, you need to add Microsoft.XboxGameCallableUI package.
Yes, me too. And also noticed that 8.5 is wrong labelled (shows 8.4). Media Player removal works fine, though. No other problems so far.
Guys, another newb question. It could be considered as another topic but I just wonder your opinions simply. Do you remove "Windows Defender" if so why? Edit: And also; Is searching(by typing the app name) in start menu connected with Cortana? I mean I don't ask for weather or don't do web search but simply typing steam returns best match "steam.exe". It can also find folders or other file types fastly. Is this connected with Cortana?
I remove it because i don't need AV on my PC, besides, i don't like Windows Defender, i'd prefer the other ones.
I have Win 10 Enterprise LTSB. You can find a genuine license on ebay for 3-5$ and you will have a legit copy of Windows. LTSB is just amazing!
I removed it too. I'm afraid, I've ruined things by removing so many things. I'll give a feedback after installing the ISO. Probably, I will have to create another ISO. Edit: I installed it and everything was fine. - Removed all metro apps (4-1) - Removed all windows components (4-2) - Removed adv components. (C, D, E, F, L, M, N, O.) (telemetry, defender, smartscreen, people experience host, cortana & startmenu search app, hyperv)
I slimmed an Enterprise N (LTSB 2016) (RS1 (1607) Build 14393.2214) yesterday, (first time ever installing Win10), and while Cortana got removed, it seems like the search feature got removed entirely as well. I can still use the Search from within Windows Explorer, but I can't search from start menu or taskbar's search bar anymore. Is this normal ?
Yeap, It's normal. I've just done the same and the app already says "Cortana & StartMenu Search App". So they are together. I guess we should have keep it and disable cortana with 5-5-1.
i just tested the toolkit with build 17134.1 rtm and everything is fine removed wmp ie edge telemetry cortana all metro apps but i have a note and a problem first there is still some xbox listed on apps, it's the only thing besides store, i don't know why it didn't get removed along with other apps; i edited the source again with the toolkit to just make sure and used remove again and selected xbox and it tells me no package found, so it means there is a problem there in toolkit not removing all packages of xbox second i don't know why in settings app the phone section is not enabled and saying hidden or managed by your organization
One of the packages I removed seems to be preventing my microphone from working on Enterprise 1803. Anyone know what it might be? I don't get too aggressive with removals so I'm not sure what it could be.
I haven't checked with the SFC for the ToolKitHelper.exe method of component removal for RS4, But for RS3 it was working without issues, will test and see what needs to be fixed. Using the DISM method for component removal sometime causes the SFC error, so do test removing only the WindowsDefender and see if you get the SFC error.
