Integrating updates first is certainly works when I tested it. The caveat is, you should do a cleanup image only after components removal. I've tested the ISO build this way few times on VirtualBox and one time on a real machine. SFC were all came clean, updates via WU working just fine and I didn't notice any errors.
I'm glad it works for some people but I see no reason not to follow the developers recommendation To each his own I guess
The next build will be locked down to images without updates, may be that will stop people from following their own order and later complaining when it breaks the update or any OS functionality.
Just to clarify, since people interpreted my previous comment wrongly. I did my test using those steps I mentioned before MSMG suggested the correct steps. I've been using the correct steps ever since. If it means that the world would fall down on me, then so be it.
.Even though its not supported I played around with some other things. I removed all windows and system apps and everything seem fine on the surface except one thing---sfc repaired syncsettings.dll. I don't know if me testing likes this would help you at all but I thought I would give it a shot.
Yes, since I have added the v1903 as a supported build in the build validation check, it allows to remove the components but currently only Windows Apps have been coded fully to support v1903, other components needs changes to support v1903.
So you are telling me to change from method 1 to method 2? Spoiler: Method 1 Extract ISO (1 > 3) Select source (1 > 1) (also mount boot and recovery images) Integrate Win32 calculator (3 > 3 > B) Apply updates (3 > 4 > 2 > 1 > 3) Cleanup (6 > 1) Remove all metro apps (4 > 1 > 1 > 8) Remove Onedrive, People, Connect, Skype (4 > 1 > 2 > H/J/K/P) Remove Store, Xbox, Game bar, Xbox ID (4 > 1 > 3 > 1/5/6/7) Cleanup (6 > 1) Tweaks for Task View, App Downloads, Photo Viewer (5 > 5 > 2/4/7) Apply changes to image (6 > 2) Rebuild (6 > 1) Convert WIM to ESD (2 > 4) Make ISO (7 > 1) Spoiler: Method 2 Extract ISO (1 > 3) Select source (1 > 1) (also mount boot and recovery images) Integrate Win32 calculator (3 > 3 > B) Cleanup (6 > 1) Remove all metro apps (4 > 1 > 1 > 8) Remove Onedrive, People, Connect, Skype (4 > 1 > 2 > H/J/K/P) Remove Store, Xbox, Game bar, Xbox ID (4 > 1 > 3 > 1/5/6/7) Cleanup (6 > 1) Apply updates (3 > 4 > 2 > 1 > 3) Tweaks for Task View, App Downloads, Photo Viewer (5 > 5 > 2/4/7) Apply changes to image (6 > 2) Rebuild (6 > 1) Convert WIM to ESD (2 > 4) Make ISO (7 > 1)
Windows update updated some of my drivers, cu etc and my printer. Just like in any other successful tests I've done
Can the toolkit or if anyone knows if its possible to pre-integrate custom apps to our choosing, similar to how NLite works but we just add our own to install. Always curious because I do clean installs every year and its a hassle reinstalling my most used apps.
@MSMG - can you please confirm that this method is okay to use and I am doing cleanup at the correct place?
Method 2 seems appropriate except for the cleanup order. It is only necessary after the integration/installation of updates to remove/compress old files that have been replaced by the updated ones. It may be recommended to do the cleanup after removing components for some other reason I do not know for sure but it would be a test anyway to know if the cleanup will work properly after removing components. So I would change the order to this: Spoiler Extract ISO (1 > 3) Select source (1 > 1) (also mount boot and recovery images) Integrate Win32 calculator (3 > 3 > B) Remove all metro apps (4 > 1 > 1 > 8) Remove Onedrive, People, Connect, Skype (4 > 1 > 2 > H/J/K/P) Remove Store, Xbox, Game bar, Xbox ID (4 > 1 > 3 > 1/5/6/7) Apply updates (3 > 4 > 2 > 1 > 3) Cleanup (6 > 1) Tweaks for Task View, App Downloads, Photo Viewer (5 > 5 > 2/4/7) Apply changes to image (6 > 2) Rebuild (6 > 1) Convert WIM to ESD (2 > 4) Make ISO (7 > 1)
Thank you, I have tried your method and I am able to confirm that SFC does not produce any errors.
