I agree, every six month updates is too fast for major updates to Windows. I do believe they are looking to reduce this to every twelve months, but I cannot find my source.
正义羊,JRJSheep=Just Righteous Justical Sheep. So,you may say me"JRJSheep".Coincidentally, I used Chinese characters as my MDL ID,not English letters.
Most want to remove the package to support all language.Because I use the zh-cn version of the operating system. Many Chinese users hope to remove the package to support the Chinese version of the system.
Bleeding edge os girl sounds better than bleeding girl at least. But well... win7 is a safer bet perhaps, but not a safe os. I've seen things nobody wants to see happen on win7. In any case, win10 isn't even the worst even without removals, there were times I had to simply disable components than remove. If we need to be very secure etc, i'd just switch to linux. I mean I already know how to use linux fairly well, but ya know....... people, including myself do want to game. Gamers tend to not really care that much about all the security and such details anyway.
Just monitoring the upcoming CU's to see if there are any difficulties with using the ToolKitHelper without updating too much. So far only few changes are required for each CU's and I'm adding automatic methods to detect and fix them. If everything goes fine then will add the support for all languages, just need someone to help me in preparing a MUI image so that I can speed up the process of adding the MUI data.
I'm a bit of a gamer (when I have the time), particularly Hearthstone. I think I must be in the minority.. I will not run my games on the main OS, always within a VM, using only an image created with this toolkit, nothing else installed and everything else disabled, and only on a VPN... ok, ok, so I'm a tad overdoing it If Linux had the gaming support of Windows I'd jump ship in an instant. <sigh> To some extent gaming and security are mutually exclusive.
When I don't have time, I still game, so you're at least doing better than me. Got me all envious. She's got self-control. I'm mostly curious what you're trying to secure however. Usually a firewall would suffice. + Remove telemetry. VPN.... yeah well, unless you're into doing funny stuff, I don't know what's to protect from. If you really want, you can just setup qemu+pcie passthrough (to access your gpu) and you'll be able to game at 95-97% performance in Windows with linux as your main OS. But please, don't fallback to win7 just because removals in win10 aren't ideal. Win7 is really insecure, not to mention slower than Win10.
Slower? i got a 2 second faster render with windows 7 on a 8th gen Pentium G5400(£55) than ltsc on an 8th gen i3 8300(£136). Same ram and ssd on both. Both os were tweaked to buggery, REAPER used the same settings. I didnt test ltsc without tweaks. If anything windows 7 had less tweaks. 2 seconds isnt that big of a deal but it proves the point, windows 7 is faster and on a cheaper cpu, easier to service etc. I got the pentium, board and ram for the same price as an i3. £s matter.
Could find no problems during my limited testing using the below method: Spoiler: Method Extract ISO (1 > 3) Select source (1 > 1) (also mount boot and recovery images) Integrate Win32 calculator (3 > 3 > B) Cleanup (6 > 1) Remove using RemovePkgsList.txt (4 > 3) Spoiler: RemovePkgsList.txt ToolKitHelper:GameExplorer ToolKitHelper:MapControl ToolKitHelper:OneDrive ToolKitHelper:PeopleExperienceHost ToolKitHelper:PPIProjection ToolKitHelper:RetailDemoContent ToolKitHelper:SkypeORTC ToolKitHelper:SecureAssessmentBrowser ToolKitHelper:WindowsMixedReality ToolKitHelper:XboxGameCallableUI ToolKitHelper:WindowsApps Apply SSU and CU updates (3 > 4 > 2 > 1 > 4) Apply setup media update (3 > 4 > 2 > 2) Tweaks for Task View, App Downloads, Photo Viewer (5 > 8 > B/D/J) Cleanup (6 > 1) Apply changes to image (6 > 2) Rebuild (6 > 1) Convert WIM to ESD (2 > 4) Make ISO (7 > 1)
ESD files are better compressed than WIM files, although they do take longer to decompress during installation on a machine which has a very slow CPU.
Boot up time is slower. I believe games were said to be slower too but im sure there are areas where win7 is faster.
@biatche I dont worry about boot times but ltsc takes longer to boot once ive tweaked it, its a trade off because it helps cut down stuff when its running. Dont matter now im back on 7. It will be airgapped once its eol anyway.
Windows 8.1 is the fastest, several benchmarks show this. Boot is arguably the fastest and for other tasks in general as well. Windows 10 is only better in newer games but you need a NASA PC anyway to run those games so it doesn't matter much if the OS is faster or not then... The 8.1 problem is the UI which is horrible but nothing that StartIsBack and AeroGlass can't solve The best UI is from Windows 7. And the best OS without tweaks Windows 7 too. As for security, I don't know why so much neurosis seems like everyone here is a CIA or KGB spy.
