Well, after a week of rebuilding with 9.5 and adjusting my post installation script to account for the changes in the image with 9.5 the issue persists. I installed the new image on two almost identical PCs. Only the CPU and memory speed are different. Everything else is the same. On the first PC everything is fine. On my PC when I right click any MKV file on an optical drive explorer still crashes. And a new one - On settings app, clicking Focus Assist causes the settings app to crash. The image integrates updates from July 2019 and uses a 8 month old video driver. I used older stuff because I was going to work forward to see if the issue was related to a recent Windows patch or Video driver, but as I said, on one PC it's fine and on the other it crashes - both using the same image and same script. This is what's been removed from the image, though it it's fine on one and not on the other, I suspect it's not the Windows image that's causing the problem. I was able to use my normal method, which includes removing apps, just fine. Make sure you use the latest ToolKitHelper.exe.

Curious. Two identical PCs, built from the same image, with exactly the same registry, services and task scheduler tweaks. With almost the same applications. The test PC has Winpcap and wireshark and mine does not, but mine has DVDFab and the Test PC does not. I'll check that. I'm going to swap CPUs around the PCs. If the test PC then has the problem and mine does not, I wonder where that leaves me? It's a I9-10940X. One bit of good news though. The waking from sleep issue that has plagued me for the last 5 years now seems to be fixed. Yay! The 2020-01 CU allegedly has some changes to explorer.exe so maybe I'll try that too (I normally stay a month behind on CUs because of Microsoft's inability to release a stable CU first time around).
hmm very complicated for me since S. Nadela got there it became a real mess in my opinion M$FT was never the same ... and with regard to her CPU it is a wonder I think the problem is not related to her look I love you thing that happened to me a few years ago believe me if i wanted to be at home working in maintenance of pc's behold, a very rich "friend" arrives and when he saw my machine and it was brand new and said: wow that machine !! and when he left the machine he never started again so I took it with all my might and popped it on a pole in front of my house, but back to the topic you didn't get to test those alternatives that I indicated? or will you do the same thing as me hope not I hope and I know that you will solve this problem
It should work as long as there are no major changes in CU but the ToolkitHelper was updated last for 18363.535. Was about to add the support for 18363.I.592 but now a new CU 18363.628 has come out, will update to the latest one itself.
The Toolkit removes almost all the Windows Defender packages except few like the Windows Defender Firewall, Only testing can know if it will break the SFC.
Only Apps won't return back and updating with a new CU will completely restore the all other components removed. If the WU is failing, you can do try installing it with offline .msu or .cab file to see if it's working. Yes, disabling components can be achieved by registry and tasks setting, will explore which components can be disabled and try to provide an option for that too.
The latest version had been updated for both the 1809 and 1909, right now working on support for 18363.628 and will be adding fixes for 1809 too, just wait for two-three days will upload the newer version.

You mean the MRT, In Toolkit when the Defender is removed, I have added the tweak to disable MRT from getting downloaded through the WU.
1) Yes it uses a variable to set yes/no for the registry load and unload function and depending on it's value the menu text is changed dynamically. 2) Yes most client recovery images are same in each index, may be in server it might be differing. This option was made to reduce the time it takes to mount and integrate updates to each recovery image. Will checkout if it needs any changes for the server images.
Although for LTSC 2019, the Toolkit have set the 17763.1 as the base image since it can update to latest update without returning components but still the ideal method would be to remove components with updates integrated as some registry keys or files may get changed at some point breaking the OS functionality. If you are removing some components like Cortana, Defender than don't again choose the same in Tweaks section since it will be already there in the removal process. Would like to add support for LTSC 2019 image with updates integrated but don't know when I will be doing it due to lack of time.
Still I haven't started it, when I do start updating the Toolkit script will be updating some of the packs and will be working on the Edge Chromium pack together.
