Then, the ORIGINAL CD or RECOVER CD as sometimes they call them would have a "special" operating system. Would be interesting to have that disc and a normal Vista one. Dump both in two different folders and then run FOLDER MATCH to see if any differences appear if that so then we may sniff some clues ?
Hi @urie Well, I haven't changed nothing in Dell.txt. I left it by default, Dell Computer. Edit: ok, problem solved. Used old DOS tool, DMICFG.exe and entered the Hewlett-Packard string into BIOS. Product activated!
FYI For People with XFX 630i motherboard, do not use this method, I successfully bricked my mobo, thank god it was under warranty Tommy
I got my notebook back yesterday and tried unsuccessfully to install ultimate on my spare drive. so i restored using the asus restore disk and told me i had 3 days left to activate so i changed the serial and used the one from the COA and vista home premium activated (required online activation) looks like asus has stopped using slic's on their oem installs. the slic table was present on bios 207, but not 209 and doesn't look like it can be back flashed) i tried to back flask to the early bios and though it seemed successful the slic is missing. Previously with bios 207, i just used my home brew oem asus ultimate disc and install with activation.
What happened? How did you flash? Did you try to use a recovery floppy, did you try to force recovery? Could you post a link to the BIOS (and the one you modded)? Did you use v1.02? XFX BIOSes have been successfully modded before. Andy
I just used version 1.02 to mod the new beta bios for my MSI k9a2 platinum board. The program defaulted to ssv2 and I added the asus files. After a reboot the board is dead.I have tried all of the recovery methods with floppy and keyboard.I'm going to order a ASUS M4A78-E because it supports the new phenom 2 955 which is why I was trying to mod the beta bios.Would it be safe to mod the new bios for the asus M4A78-E with this tool or should it be done by making a reqest here on the board and have someone do it who has more understanding of the bioses? The asus bios is AMI.
Can you please upload the modded bios (the tool mod SSV2) and the exact version and link to the BETA bios that you tried to mod with the tool? There was a bug in the tool (see Andy's warning on page#1 of this thread) that was fixed in RC1, so this is a surprise since you are using 1.02. Please upload the bios that will help Andy to debug.
afudos 217 i tried with afudos 217, afudos /iromname and got these 2 error messages: error unable to erase block: 0x00000000 error unable to close bios flash interface I'll try searching for version 211 thanks same error with afudos 211, the naitive dos flash tool is Aflash2 v.3.01
Hi I would be grateful if you could post a link to the original and the modded BIOS, so I can investigate. Thanks, Andy
