Afudos to run at pure DOS only.... -boot into pure DOS using bootable USB pen drive..... It problably works for Asus mainboards only, not notebooks.......
yes it was in pure dos mode, i was refering to the asus windows update tool from xtremesystems. I guess i can always try one of the slic tools here. thanks again Yen
I cant get access to the modded file I used to flash my k9a2 Platimum after running it through 1.02 until Monday when my new motherboard arrives,as it is on my hard drive and dont have a floppy drive in this computer.I downloaded the new beta bios version 1.8b3 from the msi forums which is supposed to let the new phenom 2 995 run on the board. When I ran it through the program it seemed to go ok and the resulting bios file was the same size as the original. It flashed with afudos with no error messages and when I rebooted the board was dead.Afriend of mine is bringing over another processor to try just to make sure its the board. I realize there is a working bios 1.7 here which I have been running but I was needing the beta for my new processor.
Yes that is the one.No, I didn't flash with the unmodded bios file first,I guess I should have. The page with the link says it is tested and working. Sorry I cant send you the modded file right now. After I get my new board running I'll try to send it to you.
I need a link to the original Beta bios. I would like to see the modded one also. If you could D/L the original and upload the original and modded to a share server, I would appreciate it... I had to rereg at the MSI forum and they have not sent me the email verification yet..It has been a lonnnngggg time..Guess they forgot. Thanks.....
I just did another XFX 8200 bios for someone else. With the newest version it was modded and flashed 100%. I am sure it will activate fine. I did this before as mentioned previously.
In conclusion.... I agree that the tool is sound and the latest problem is most likely related to the bios being beta, or a flash problem. All in all, I would use the tool for my board if it had an AMI bios. It has a great track record, and its just too easy.. I think the tool is equal to any manual mods for adding a SLIC to a bios. Now if we could just make the flashes consistent.............. PS: I did alter the defaults on the tool to compare to a manual mod I had done first. I figured it would be easier to simulate my mod with the tool than the other way around..kind of a control, if you will.. I hope the take home point was that the tool mod was OK...
Thanks 911medic. As always, I value your expertise and wisdom. You taught me how to do it, after all! Andy
Hi all this is my first post/mod Just wondering if this is still working for sp2? fyi this is a asus board EDIT Seems I can't use this tool since its a phoenix award bios. I'm trying to do it manual following a guide or 2 and they say i have to made space for slic in the bios but in my bios there already is RSDTXSDTFACPDSDTFACCOSFRAPICSLICHPETMCFGFACS can someone please tell me what i have to do in this case?
Don't use the method you PM'd me with. Could you post a link to the BIOS then I will suggest what method to use. Andy
Since this is not a crack/or other software mod, I would imagine that it will work with as many service packs still require a SLIC to activate.. (can you say "market share"?) Very similar to the SLP in XP. Three service packs and SLP is still there. Could you imagine the logistical problems if all of the old activations became invalid.. Do not place the bios mods in the same class with vistaloaders, timestoppers, and other emulators..they are not the same, and much more difficult to stop (if at all), if not technologically, logistically for sure...
Yeah, now there are two mods floating around in at least two threads..I have uploaded an MSI/Medion mod in the other thread.. At least they are not the same..I think I will go back to lurking..
