Would it be wrong to use a Flash Utility called AMIFLASH to flash an AMIBIOS? Would the below commands in DOS be the correct way to flash a Modified Bios File from Andy's AMI Mod Tool V1.17 using AMIFLASH? Or should I not use AMIFlash but do something else? At The Command Prompt: amiflash.exe P5Q-PRO-ASUS-TURBO-0401_SLIC.ROM /-B /-C /-D /E /-G /I /L /N /R /V Thank you.
Probably best to use the tool provided by ASUS from the bios download page. Some of the bios are picky..You also need to flash the fie at its original name..not the name the slic tool gives it...
Thanks Sebus and 911Medic....I appreciate the information. I have already flashed the Asus bios with the new updated and non-modified version and now am ready to flash it with the modified bios that was created with Andy's AMI Slic Mod Bios Tool.... To answer your question 911Medic, Asus uses the AMIFLASH utility as well as 2 - 3 more of which I am not familiar. So, if it is alright to use AMIFlash, then I will proceed with it. Sebus - So, I should type the following at the command prompt: amiflash.exe P5Q_SLIC.ROM /-B /-C /-D /E /-G /I /L /N /R /V and not use amiflash.exe P5Q-PRO-ASUS-TURBO-0401_SLIC.ROM /-B /-C /-D /E /-G /I /L /N /R /V - Just some more clarification at this point.
There is not very much space. I think that is why MMTool2 is crashing. I will Ix further tomorrow. It might be necessary to try an SSV2 style mod. But it is core 7 - anybody done an SSV2 core 7 mod?? Andy
Sometimes the name is too long. It has to be short on some, or it wont recognize the bios..We have had problems with other bios flashes before...I always rename the bios to the original when I am done with the tool.
Sebus and 911Medic: I wanted to report that I successfully flashed the bios using the methods of which you instructed and my brother's windows vista is now activated. AndyP's AMI MOD TOOL v1.17 worked like a charm. Now, this was my brother's computer and he is very happy with the results. I want to thank AndyP as well... Thank you all for the input and help and the great AMI Mod Tool.
I always did ssv2 mods, mainly MSI bioses, core7. Patched the 0F module, set pointer to SLIC to location at EEPROM. I usually used offset 10h of biosfile as start for SLIC to insert and added byte 89h. I additionally remained the compressed size of the modified 0F module. I neither didn't want any shift of offsets nor an additional module. Some bioses made mmtool2 to crash anyway, sometimes I had to use old stuff like bcp760..... I'm really too much with Phoenix bioses : May I ask what's the current method at core7 bioses with 0F (Acpi module)?
I used Dell M07 SLIC, because the OEMtableID is more compressible due to 20h and 00h. The only places I edited were the OEMIDs, OEMtableIDs and creator IDs of all Acpi tables. I've edited the IDs of all the tables to the same to fit again to original compressed size. And if it was neccessary I 20h'ed some of them.
I have a question. In Andy's AMI and Award Mod Tool, when it is unzipped, there is a folder called SLP which is nothing more than a text file. Where how do you get the SLP files. Or can anyone make up an SLP file and place in Andy's tools without screwing up the program? The reason for me asking is I have all these SLIC files and I want to put in Andy's tools but I need a SLP file to match....so, how do I do it? Thanks
New version v1.18 ADD: Core v7 SSV2 method FIX: Improved module insertion code FIX: MMTool rarely changes 2 bytes in the 1B module FIX: Improved handling of Fx modules. Can now handle complete SLIC, partial SLIC and reversed SLIC. FIX: Identify NVRAM area in core v7 BIOSes FIX: Possible errors with SSV2 SLP mods Andy
