I quite agree with you on naming it Windows 9 rather than naming it Windows Threshold. In fact, the latter is too long for the name of Windows. I think we've argued and speculated on that matter before on this particular thread.
Yes it is likely that it will be named Windows 9: Technical Preview. The release date on 30th September is highly unlikely, though.
That is my belief as well. But, there are news online the invitations have already been dispatched to those who are going to attend the press event, which is taking place in San Francisco. Many claim they have confirmed that from Microsoft. I am speculating based on the information going on online, if I am to go by their acclaimed validity, it will take place on the 30th of September.

If any dispute runs out of arguments it's likely that this (rather poor and more important wrong) comparisons appear .
Better go petition Obama to make the WIndows 9 leak happen! May as well get Congress in on it too. Oh, and especially Bill Gates; he's the head of Microsoft and can surely get things done in his current position!
