Yup, no idea how people could come up with the BS : "MS wants to bury win8", in win7 and before, RTM is RTM, feature-locked, but starting from win8, policy has changed. MS is just being versatile in handling Updates, if some press/blogger thought that MS would bet with a multi-billion business just to target on them, I could only describe it as "brainless baloney". Although MS is now working on Update3 and win8.2(Threshold), like I said before, it's a Plan B, nothing is decided yet, they may or may not see the light of day, so if some press/bloggers now brag around of a "2015 Spring release of Threshold", and even calls it win9, they are just building their own trap. AFAIK, MS most probably won't say anything in Sept., maybe around end 2014, they could say or show something, who knows?
I don't think a lot of people understand software development. It's not until you actually work on something do you realize what will or won't work (well enough). MS isn't the kind of company to make a lot of false promises. They're not like politicians who just tell everyone what they want to hear. They've always been about productivity and functionality. I think this is why people were so shocked when MS made such a hard push for an obvious tablet grab OS. People who use a keyboard and mouse or touchpad don't need these clownishly big icons to start programs. We can also read. We don't need pictures on everything like McDonald's workers.
not familiar with McDonalds I only know McDowels where prince of Zamunda used to work during his ride to Queens searching his gal
Yeah but with enough ram and decent video card and superfetch turned off which chewed your hard disk it was decent. Superfetch was so poorly optimized in vista. Works amazing in 8.1
MS wishes to gain their market share in "all devices", in WPC they admitted only 14%, rest is mostly mobils, so they introduced their "3 screens & a cloud" which is basically metro. Last year they realized the vol clients simply do not buy it, so they started the threshold project, like you said, they couldn't know if they can put everything into win9 and it would work, so, if it doesn't work, then Plan B: win9 will be metro, win8.2 will be traditional mouse+keyboard.
I was reading a few pages of posts and it sort of looks like everybody is waiting for the MS show to start and everyone has their 2 cents on the plot and the ending. Let's bring back Win ME and have some real fun!
On of the reasons why most Windows 7 users are adamant to making use of Windows 8 is complacency. The fact that many find the switching between the 'start' and the 'desktop' rather unusual keep them away from having it on their systems.
on hearing the first warning of update 3: 1. Proceed to the nearest building. 2. Stay away from loose objects, and drop all glasses, books etc. In your hands. 3. Remove sharp objects, such as pencils and keys, from your pockets. 4. Loosen your necktie, unbutton your coat and remove restrictive articles of clothing. 5. Remove eyeglasses, earrings, watches and other jewelry. 6. Upon seeing the brilliant flash of update 3 bend over and place your head firmly between your legs. 7. Then kiss your ass goodbye.
There might be a small few here that know something and not saying for obvious reasons. Anyone who comes out and hints at knowing anything about it, especially after they were clueless about the "August Update" are lying are just fishing for attention. Making themselves look knowledgeable about it when in reality they are as clueless as most of us here.
Remember the half-touchscreen half-laptop systems they came out with the last couple years? They had the nerve to think anyone who could actually type would want to use a big heavy tablet. FFS MS, just commit to one thing and do that one thing. Don't try to shoehorn that crap into a swiss army computer. I know that's not exactly MS engineering these things, but the damn OS is so schizophrenic that these things are the only Frankenstein's monsters that would come of it.
Sadly, I don't have any friends working for Microsoft, as few other people here on MDL have, so I just share news I find interesting.
