he's just trying to start problems like he does with most of his posts. Maybe if we ignore him he'll go away...or not.

what I have heard is that only biz versions like enterprise/VL should have these features but this is to be taken with usual amount of salt (cannot give the source atm)

What do you think about that App Folders idea for Win 9? bit.ly / 1oq1Tob Could make sense, imo .. I would actually use it. Interactive tiles are overdue!

What I said in Neowin was there is a probability that WinThreshold(Win8.2) could be abandoned, because MS (like indicated in their blog about Aug Update) would decide to release the new win8.1 features in patch Tue, I believe MS could make decision soon, but not now.

Anyway, for guys who believes WinThreshold is Win9, just ignore what I said, I am tired of debating. :p

I believe he had said some time ago in a post that "this is my last post in MDL", but I think his shrink probably advised him to keep on to avoid conditions going worse - we have seen too much of a guy carrying some fire-arms and shoot blindly in a mall. :tea:

If you mean the "Apps Folder" in wp8.1, AFAIK, it won't come to windows client.

btw, I have heard that Cortana wouldn't make it to the (1st) Win9 Preview in next Spring, but that's last month, things might change. :D

    Hello all,

This is my first post on this forum and before i'll ask my question i want to thank you all for your great work.
Since we are just a day before the Update 2 for Windows 8.1 will be released, i would like to ask if there is any need to turn off my antivirus (Norton AntiVirus) while downloading (from what i've read here, the update will be available through WU) and installing the updates. Thank you!

No need to do anything. It will be installed automatically, If you never changed "Windows Update Options".

    Thank you MrRTM!
The only change i made to the windows update was to set WU to notify me whenever new updates are available but to let me choose whether to install them or not instead of downloading and installing the updates automatically.

I'd be very surprised if is not in the build that comes out later this year, I've already seen it up and running.

Brad, that's what the MS guy said in a PCBeta post last month, don't know what build you saw, but take an example, MS had a demo of Interactive Tiles in a lab build some months back and it's running well, but this feature would still take some time to be released. Cortana is even more complicated because it involves some kind of AI, and is presently available (I think) for only 3 countries.

Btw, these are the 2 features(Cortana and Interactive Tiles) that I am definite will be a win9 feature, the other "rumored win9 features", AFAIK, are basically for transforming win8.1 into what @Yen described as "Win7SP2". They may also appear in win9, I don't know, like @murphy said, the problem with software development is you have to actually develop and test it before you know if it could work well. :D

Aug Update in 24 hours, nobody is starting a thread on it? :p

Isn't it supposed to be only a regular windows update/patch, just like the ones MS issued every patch Tuesday?
I was expecting a brand new ISO for the supposed Aug update, but it does not appears to be happening anymore.

The most desired feature that I'm waiting for from new update is feasibility to reset base Install.wim with added pending updates as it goes with boot.wim and winre.wim with Spring update. :worthy:

People are mad because a bunch of "journalists" and "leakers" pushed the hype about an "Update 2" featuring all that cool stuff that NEVER was announced as an "Update 2". Microsoft talks about some stuff they are working on. Says they will be available in "future Windows updates". Next thing you know, update 2 is confirmed by everyone and their dog except Microsoft themselves. Instead of waiting for real information people ran with any little thing they heard and pushed hype for something that never was.

The real thing gets announced and everyone is upset at Microsoft for hype they didn't create. Then "journalists" and "leakers" all over the internet throw hissy fits or start hinting that they knew it wasn't what was hyped all along. Suddenly they start saying things like "oh update 2 was broken up into individual updates a while back from what I was told a while back" or "I knew it never existed and never said I did". Except they talked about nothing but "update 2" for months lmao. Now it's "they canceled Threshold to release it as smaller features through WU. Wait, let me go back and change CANCELLED to THINKING ABOUT ABANDONING THRESHOLD." Except people out there have actually seen builds and know exactly what's going on with Threshold and don't need to pull nonsense from out of nowhere.

Plain and simple. That's exactly what happened here. A good chunk of you got excited for an update that Microsoft never actually announced or confirmed then got pissed at them for not delivering on something they never actually confirmed to be doing. Were they originally going to release a bigger update? Maybe, but that still doesn't change the fact that people blindly pushed that hype for months without ever actually questioning it.

Edit: Removed a rant. I won't let others get on my nerves from now on.
