wow, 10 years... that`s pretty good going...i got my i5 in 2012, [asus mobo], but i do not see myself still using that thingy in 2022.. it wil be obsolete, for one thing, by that time.
even if it still works. [ i agree that there should be an end to preventive replacement, yen;] if it still works after all that time, it proves that they cut no corners quality-wise,
capicitators are all made in japan, not in china. and also i think it pays to have a decent socket to plug it in, to prevent power surges [i used to have one for my old hp duocore, but no longer.] i think jime1 is in india somewhere, and i would be very suspicious about power surges there. i know that here in holland they increased from 220 volts to 230 volts on the sockets. the increase is only small, but it can hurt capicitators, especially if you boot it every time.

    lol. yes. i will tell you a little secret.. that youtube is fake news.. here is how it goes in real life;
-1. you power up your soldering iron.
-2, you point it at the mosfet.
-3. the mosfet dies spontanuously. [ mosfets are the worst. they even need built-in zenerprotection.]
-4. you are left with a ruined machine.

those intel boards from that time were known for broken mosfets and lose I/O chip pin that need reflow.. sometimes capacitor but not often.
power supply bad capacitor is very likely part of problem that damaged board... upgrade newer comp i5 !!

Oh I see, ya Sir I'm getting lots of cheap/reasonable i3/i5 upgrade offers from everywhere but dang, right now I cannot even afford that : (
I really need that upgrade and probably an SSD too ..

But looking at the bright side, I at-least got display of all the BIOS errors ! YAY !
Leaving to get a CPU fan...

you`ll get there in the end,@jime1, to cut costs; better leave out the ssd for now, i think; it contributes nothing, only speed, and an i5 or an i3 wil be way faster than your old rig anyway.:)

TBH. SSDs are not that expensive anymore. Would not go for a PC upgrade still remaining at a system HDD. It will be a huge bottleneck and the overall performance feeling will be moderated...

A small one for sys is enough...I hope you can get your old one back to work so you'll have enough time to save money for a SSD, too. :)

There are affordable options.... Like what you just did, Get a power supply, and hopefully you got a good quality one and not some cheap piece of crap that won't last, you can then save up for an SSD and after that get a newer case. All of these things can be added to your new upgraded pc later.
Then you only need a mainboard, memory and cpu. Start saving up today or maybe just after the holidays

just to be clear, the older psu was the cause of non booting pc, right ?
and when you say "I at-least got display of all the BIOS errors", you mean you were able to see these errors at startup when pressing on power button ?
were you able to access windows session before buying CPU fan ?

"access windows session before buying CPU fan ?"
I wouldn't even think about puling off such a stunt even in my wildest nightmare !
I just checked if I get at-least BIOS display on the new PSU, that too with the CPU heat sink(+dead fan) ON.

it is still confusing, does this mean that you were able to access windows session after getting and installing the CPU fan ?
