Ah, thanks, I hadn't noticed it had been officially broken off of this thread. My apologies.

I don't think anyone can ever convince me this s**t is better than the start menu. I really really tried to use it, ended up getting fed up and going back to windows 7. Shame is I LOVE the new file copy progress dialogs and the new task manager and the ribbon explorer. But this start screen ruins everything for me.

Well, they are still working on it. So, I say give it another shot when beta hits.

    Yup.

Except for those preferring Win7 as it is.

They can always remain mired in the past.

I figure we're lucky enough to have got them away from Win 3.1.

Windows 95 was a great evolution of UI from Windows 3.1 because Microsoft kept the spirit of DESKTOP COMPUTING intact. The start menu was just that, a MENU, not some in your face LOOK AT ME start screen that took focus off ALL your current tasks. At least in Windows 7 I can have a video playing and do a start menu search without the video being covered up. Windows 8 is taking the whole idea of multitasking and throwing it out the window. And for what is it doing this for? Some flashy green tiles that a 3 year old might find cool?

I just don't see the start screen working for real PC's. Enterprises sure as hell won't want this. Mark my words, the uptake numbers on Windows 8 will be worse than the Vista numbers were.

MS said a while ago that Service Packs will just be update rollups and fixes from now on, no more new features like in XP SP2.

Exactly. Win 8 is really good on tablets and touch screens, but that's where it stops.
