Or even DAZ treated Genuine Windows 7 PCs.
One thing is clear, Microsoft looked to the beast eye to eye and backpedaled like crazy.

Did you even read? Also it has nothing to do with a pirated version of Windows. The Statement in question is in general, people aren't getting malware because they are downloading Chrome but because they are searching for Porn, Cracks, Free Music, free ebooks etc. I have never gotten a Virus either, that doesn't change the reality out there. One look at average consumer's PC and you die a little inside, full of crapware and malware.

I have been using pirated version in the past and they stopped working after updates by windows !! It is good to get the buy version after an upgrade of an pirated version because you get an cheaper offer from Microsoft !! At least it was in my case with windows 7 :)

But I can imagine people don't want to pay for the work they invest in an OS from Microsoft ! I like the thought of open source like Linux :p

for something so 'free' and whatnot there's sure a lot of vagueness to everything..
I feel though that they know after windows 8 screwing over the consumer wouldn't be such a hot idea and messing THIS up would be the end for windows..
    although that's just my opinion.

It seems to be exclusively meant for the Chinese users. They probably represent the height of Windows operating system pirates.

Well I'm not. I got hit with cryptolocker through Microsoft Silverlight. Luckily, I do regular backups, although I did lose some projects that I was working on.

Users have to be -VERY- careful out there. One bad choice and you lose everything. and don't pay attention for a second and all is lost. :(

    :MJ

P.S. Not very lady-like of me, but I hope they catch the rat bastards behind cryptolocker, cut their balls off, and offer to sell them back to them.

if it is enterprise you will have to make an upgrade with iso only, no esd shipped from MS. I assume other VL versions will have same way to go to W10

M$ absolutely wants that people move to w10 for several reasons. (make money with the store, compensate weak market share of w8, compensate mimicking of OEM licenses)

The bait is one year free w10 which has to be paid later. When they decide OEM licenses are upgradeable then it means pirated versions of it are also because they are actually indistinguishable from the original. Recent DMCA takedown actions are targeting explicitly w7 related topics, for instance the w7 repository which has been on MDL for years.
People using a loader should not forget when upgrading a new bootloader will be written and w7 will lose its activation.

From the perspective of a pirate it is best to stay at w7 as long as possible. This also knows M$ hence they offer the bait.

I agree with Yen. IMHO, M$ wants penetrate deeper to the market. They want to move everyone with older OS and offering Win 10 with free upgrade.

I think there's bigger picture behind M$ offering. At least they are trying, to compete growing mobile OS.

So, am I correct in thinking that, the free 1 year upgrades will be provided to retail versions by ESD file downloads . VL versions will receive an iso file within the free 1 year grace period.
Are enterprise users also getting the same free 1 year upgrade through their various organizations or agreements with Microsoft.

Perchance, anyone know what win 8.1 MCE will be upgraded to, or win 7 premium and professional for that matter. Will win 7 basic be inclusive. Thanks.

I disagree to a certain extent. You are not forced to upgrade and if you failed to do that within a year you would bear the cost of getting an upgrade.Pirated OS is not even legal in the first place and looking for ways to get the users along has something to do with the free upgrade option. I think sticking with Windows 7 is a bad idea as security changes with time.

It is not all about making money from the Store(how many people even purchase apps from the store on PC?) but to bring people into the new ecosystem of Windows 10 as the old versions are being faced out.
