Question about android updates

    I have a LG K8 with android 6.0.1 (Verizon prepaid) and a RCA Voyager III with android 7.1.2 that I want to update to newer android versions since there are no more factory updates. If the tablet f**ks up I don't really care, but I need to be able to activate the phone. Is there a way to manually update the android version without messing them up?

    Since these are device specific questions....I guess XDA forums are a better place to get info unless there is somebody here having exactly the same devices.
    Also you would need a device specific custom ROM that's suitable for an update.
