Yah, you just load up wireshark, start capturing, and look for new connections being made. Telemetry connects to vortex sites. It seems to only connect after a certain amount of data has been collected, tho. So it's not something you can just leave sitting and wait. You have to try to run different programs while wireshark is running.
OK, I've done my snooping. It does seem that the app toast key is required to stop app telemetry even with normal telemetry disabled.
Not hopeless, no data, nothing to send. Spoiler Code: All these problems - the candidates for shutdown: Go > Task Scheduler \ Task Scheduler Library \ Microsoft \ Windows in the Application Experience: AitAgent - data collection and transmission of remote monitoring applications (for explicit consent to participate in the program, CEIP). Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser - Collects program telemetry information if opted-in to the Microsoft Customer Experience Improvement Program. ProgramDataUpdater - telemetric data collection program with the participation in the Customer Experience Improvement Program in Autochk: Proxy - This task collects and loads data SQM, with the participation in the program to improve the quality of software. in the Customer Experience Improvement Program: Consolidator -If you wish to participate in a program to improve the quality of the software Windows, this task will be to collect and send information about the software to Microsoft. HypervisorFlightingTask -This Job Sends collects and Usage Data to Microsoft. KernelCeipTask -When the task Improvement Program, running in kernel mode (Kernel CEIP), collected additional data about the system, which are then transmitted to Microsoft. If the user has not given their consent to participate in this program, this problem has no effect. UsbCeip -When the task Improvement Program Bus USB (USB CEIP) collects statistics on the use of the Universal Serial Bus USB and computer information to be sent to Microsoft engineering team for connecting devices in Windows . The resulting information is used to improve the reliability, stability and overall performance of the USB in Windows . In the absence of consent to participate in a program to improve software Windows task does nothing. in DiskDiagnostic: Microsoft-Windows-DiskDiagnosticDataCollector - For users, participating in the program quality control software, service diagnostic disc Windows provides an overview of the disk and the system to Microsoft. in NetTrace: GatherNetworkInfo - assembling information networks [run vbs-script GatherNetworkInfo.vbs, collecting comprehensive data network and adds them to the folder C: \ Windows \ System32 \ config] - Open Task Sheduler and just disable it all. It goes for win 10 pro, and ended up with this story of espionage, data collect, telemetry. Test, manually launch the script and then allow you to inspect the plethora of data collected: Open CMD.exe (run as administrator) In the cmd prompt, type: cd /d %temp% (press enter) Now type: cscript c:\windows\system32\gatherNetworkInfo.vbs (press enter) Wait for it to complete. Launch explorer.exe and browse to %temp%\config\ , or yust go C:\Users\<name>\AppData\Local\Temp\config
Thanks for sharing this important info. I'm still struggling with the package list on my computer. I type in this: dism /online /get-packages /format:table>packages.txt In my packages.txt I only see 14 packages identified. Some language packages and pre-release packages. I don't see any of the packages mentioned in post 1. What am I doing wrong?
Does this have anything to do with VPN other than VPN set up thru Windows VPN bleeds the real IPv6 address? OpenVPN TAP adapter for me bleeds the IPv6 real address unless unbinding IPv6.
I accidentally removed the search packages and I'd like to get windows search back. Any chance without clean installing?
I use to disable all ipv6 stuff in lots of computers, until now I didn't saw any side effect. I know homegroup use ipv6, but I don't use it. My settings are: GPO > administrative templates > network > tcp/ip settings > ipv5 transition technologies set 6to4 state, set isatap state, set teredo etate, all enabled > disabled state in network adapters settings, only tcp/ip v4, client for windows networks and file and printer sharing. I can't see any good in ipv6 tunneling.
Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\TCPIP6\Parameters] "DisabledComponents"=dword:ff This disable all IPv6 components except the IPv6 loopback interface. This value also configures Windows to prefer using IPv4 over IPv6 by changing entries in the prefix policy table.
I run Microsoft Network Monitor 3.4. Next I run the Automatic Maintenance in the "Action Center". Network Conversations show me: Code: e11290.g.akamaiedge.net e1706.g.akamaiedge.net onesettings-db5.metron.live.com.nsatc.net geo-prod.dodsp.mp.microsoft.com.nsatc.net

Everyone who finds registry tweaks, network traffic, data packages send to MS etc. checks it for windows 10. Are windows systems like 7 or 8.1 the same, talkative? I mean is "spying/data sending" in older operating systems less/equal maybe the same like in windows 10? All eyes are now on windows 10 because everyone see now possible on/off switches or the outgoing traffic. Maybe we've lost our privacy with Windows XP?
8 was chattier with the store apps, obviously. It talked to nsatc.net (markmonitor) as well. 10 has telemetry, updates once per day rather than once per week. It has web search bar by default on non-ltsb versions. It has defender cloud and defender sample submit enabled by default. All of these things are web based and send data to ms. 10 is much worse than 8 about privacy, tho 8 was bad enough with the cloud features of sky/onedrive and apps. 7 didn't really do much on your network.
It's sad to see what all has to be done to try to achieve as much privacy as possible in Windows 10. Thank you to all of you who are posting information to help everyone have more privacy.
If you install a driver windows 7 report it to Microsoft. Error report, compatibility assistant, windows help, all phone home in windows 7. Take a look at local group policies in windows 7 there is at least a dozen of settings about disable windows reporting/connecting to Microsoft. There is much talk about windows 10 telemetry, but I can see anywhere a concise report about what data precisely is being transmitted. Does media files that are store in my computer are being indexed, and this metadata sent to MS? Do they know what I have stored in my computer, for the sole purpose to better offer me targeted advertisement? If I write some notes in notepad that data will be also sent? People is being naive believing that they can block windows from collect personal user data. If they really want, data can be transmitted encrypted in a new undocumented protocol.
