Yen, Thanks for your response. Using Modbin I changed the "Change BIOS message" to one of these: HP PAVILION 'HP PAVILION' 'Hewlett-Packard' Hewlett-Packard 'HP PAVILION' 'Hewlett-Packard' I checked with Modbin to make sure the changes took place, reflashed for the each of the messages, saw the new messages at boot, but everytime I boot into Win XP I still get the balloon "29 days left for activation." Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks
I need the oembios.cat file from your xp installation or if not installed the oembios.ca_ from the CD (it's the same on CD, but compressed). I'll analyze it to find the matching string and to make sure you've got a SLP version of XP.....otherwise you have to exchange the OEMbios files with the right ones to get it activated. BTW: no marks (') are used.......
Yen, Thanks for your help. I finally got it working but my problem was I was using the wrong product key. I got the product key from using Magic Jellybean on the hp laptop w/ the oem cd. I assumed that the key was correct so this was the one I have been using for this install. By the way, after using modbin to edit the bios message I was able to find dmi236 dmi editor. I was successful in entering the oem bios string in the system man., board manuf., chasis manuf. but would not activate. So, I read back threads about making oem cd's then one thread described making an 'winnt.sif' file and noticed a line w/ a product key. So I thought of looking back in my oem cd and looked for the winnt.sif file, opened up a hex editor, and saw that the product key in the sif file did not match the one I used for installation. I reinstalled the os, entered the 'correct' product key, and now activated. Thanks for your help again.
Hi Yen, has this process been sucessfully impemented on a Gigabyte MB??? I tried this on a GA-MA69GM-S2H and it killed the board..
Fzeven, Question Fzeven, Sorry haven’t got back to you on your last mod you did for me on the Intel MB, actually I had 2 boards go bad because of a bad chip but soon as the boards come back I’ll try the mod. Anyway two questions for you. I got a MB Bios I want you to look at but was wondering it’s a AMI Bios if I was to use the “Zhaoliang Tool” would this be the same as if you did the mod or do you hard core it in differently just wondering I’m a little nervous to do it because I use this board in Raid and didn’t want to mess it up. Second, You did a mod for me not to long ago on a Gigabyte that worked great but they came out with a newer bios version recently if flashed would I loose the SLP and SLP2.0, if so would you mind doing it again, hate to bug you I know your busy! Thanks again Britty58
Yen, Oembios.CA_ File I need the oembios.cat file from your xp installation or if not installed the oembios.ca_ from the CD (it's the same on CD, but compressed). I'll analyze it to find the matching string and to make sure you've got a SLP version of XP.....otherwise you have to exchange the OEMbios files with the right ones to get it activated. BTW: no marks (') are used.......Yen. Yen, I was wondering, is there a tool around to analyze the Oembios.CA_ and also to see what a PC is calling for if it already has SLP in it. I search around for a tool but didn’t see anything. Or are you the master to checking and you don’t mind me sending a couple to you to verily them, again like Fzeven didn’t want to add to your workload. Thanks Again. Britty58
No!!! Modbin alone cannot handle Gigabyte bios. You will see that after you've saved the modified bios. Its size raised from 1024 to 1025Kbyte and if you'll reopen it with modbin it crashes....... It destroys the integrity of the bios. The experience and development of modifiying the bios is spread all over THIS thread....The clue is to release some modules with cbrom, modifiy the systembios ( therefore you can use modbin), replace it and add the modules with cbrom again.....
