What is the name I have to give to simplix pack's online installer (UpdatePack7R2+.exe) so that it will install ie and other stuff? I am remotely helping a friend, so asking him to download all extra .wa files for directx, .net etc is quite hard, so he will just run simplix to fully update his windows until I install the rest manually.
UpdatePack7R2+.exe is just a download tool for the simplix pack not an online installer, so you dont change its name. It will download UpdatePack7R2-22.2.10.exe, and you rename that file to UpdatePack7R2--++.exe Its all explained in the first post under Additional Functionality.
Updating multiple editions from base SP1 is slooooow. Am I able to cancel the update pack and have the editions that the update pack already messed with have the updates, or will I have to start over?
If you use the tool from @Enthousiast it needs to service only one SKU, and then creates all other SKUs from the first one. All will have updates in the end.
The AIO new build takes many hours for me on an I5 using a normal HD, but for those with faster systems, especially with SSD's, it's much quicker.
The tool he advises is: MDL Win 7 Tool for SiMPLiX UpdatePack AiO ISO (with install.wim/esd) Creation It just services one SKU and all others are created from the serviced one, on an ancient i7 3770 with ssd it takes about 1hr to run, on a more current i7 11700 with nvme ssd it takes about 15min to run.
@Durga Simplix Pack do not removed already installed updates on live system, it only install new updates Monthly Rollup updates are chained together, when you install the latest rollup (KB5010404), the previous rollup (KB5009610) do not show up under Installed Updates panel however, it's still installed in the system you need to either use Dism.exe tool to uninstall it manually, or run Disk Cleanup > Update Cleanup KB5010798 is standalone update, it should be uninstalled manually (although, WU still offer it for now) KB5006749 = Servicing Stack Updates are permanent, they cannot be uninstalled (except using workaround to modify mum file)
@abbodi1406 Thank you very much for the detailed response. My Windows Disk Cleanup isn't offering any updates to clean up, so seems nothing can be done there. I'll leave KB5010798 (standalone update) installed as messing with this is above my pay grade and I don't want to risk breaking my system in any way. My assumption in all of this was that when Simplix has near finished its updates install routine its last task is to launch Disk Cleanup anyway and I thought that would include removing 'redundant' updates; seems not. So Simplix is maybe not quite as intelligent as I thought it was, though I dare say what Windows 'thinks' is also a factor in this. In any case, I'll keep using Simplix. At least I get updates and I'm (hopefully) managing to avoid the Microsoft Spyware (aka (so-called) 'telemetry'), which is the whole point of me using Simplix in the first place. Keeping track of what is and isn't needed on the system by way of updates is well beyond my expertise level and I don't want to tie myself in knots attempting to do any such thing. Thanks again.
Simplix Pack is mainly ment to bring unupdated or out-of-box system to the latest updated status it's not too feasible to use it for regular monthly updating
Gulp... Yet from what I'm seeing on the web this is exactly what an awful lot of people, including myself, are doing on an ongoing basis. I actually thought that was one of its purposes.
Can it be possible to have the UpdatePack use the updates it already extracted, skipping the extraction process on multi-edition updates?
Personally i never install win 7 on real systems for a few years now, but my father in law needs to run it because his racing pigeons hardware and software still are not made 100% compatible with win 10, so i frequently (not monthly) use the updatepack with the WA addons to update it.
