Can equivalent update situation of simplix pack be done manually to a running Windows 7 system using WHDownloader by just not installing the KB numbers he excludes? Or does he modify the updates themselves, so they are no longer identical to KB you can download from Microsoft? In changelog there are many KB where he says he disabled telemetry inside, so he is going inside and modifying the updates, correct?
If you're gonna imply "he might as well be stuffin' in a keylogger", don't bother. Yes, simplix does modify updates so there's next to no telemetry and no CPU check.
I was more wondering how he does it. Are there switches or configuration files in the KB updates where you can toggle telemetry on and off? Can that be done with scripting and WHDownloader?
@muu: There are updates that affect telemetry. These guys go through the updates and remove the ones that do. So, I suppose it's possible to do just that.
I think it would've been better if we would've chosen a good reputable user, with a WDS server to just create an updated image every month and be done with it. No more suspicions, no more paranoia. With updates directly from MS and no modifications of any kind. Sure, it's what you guys call homebrew but if the user was trustworthy then it would not matter.
Use WHD if that's what you want, this is just one of the options to get the job done, it does what it does and it does it well, and very easy to use. I wouldn't trust someone releasing an updated image, first i may have other preferences and nobody knows what is done to the image. If people prefer that, TPB has enough of those homebrew
meh I'm bit disapointed after running this simplix pack on SP1 + until 2016 updates installer reports 57 updates to install, but then installs only 6 and thats it ...
could be then something non essential as your untouched source says you need 180 fixes to get me, i have (in cpanel) 164 listed as installed already
Simplix does NOT tamper with or otherwise modify the included Windows updates as of Dec17 pack. Only *after* its pack is applied to a live system or an offline-updated ISO is used to install W7, both telemetry and "processor checking" corrections are applied. Without going into detail: telemetry is handled in the same way as in abbodi's reg tweaks here (Windows updates installer) or here (telemetry script) and WU processor checking is handled in a similar way to well known wufuc project does.
Good info. Thanks for clearing that up. So to achieve the same state as Simplix pack you could even use standard WU Client to automatically update(excluding 'Recommended') and then run abbodi's W10-Block script as a scheduled boot task, which would disable any reactivation of telemetry components? The last edit on abbodi's W10-Block post is October 14. Simplix changelog shows October November December each have new KBs that get telemetry disabled, KB4041681 KB4048957 KB4054518. Do these need new script lines to disable new telemetry components? Does a Simplix system have other undesirable components disabled, more than a WU updated/W10-Block system, or would they be the same?
