1:40 a.m. PST 1809 Pro, I just caught Update Orchestrator Service running (green icon in the tray for the win!)...in a Disabled state!! I immediately opened services, and while I have nowhere to post the screenshot, it shows the UOS is "Running" and status is "Disabled". Needless to say I immediately stopped it. Does this happen when the Defender is grabbing an update, or is it WU that handles that? Am I freaking out for no reason? How TF is a disabled service in a running state?? I see Defender ran at 1:03 a.m. PST, about 40 mins before I caught the issue, and reported it found nothing. Nothing, and I mean ZERO has changed (no idea wtf this did or started to do though), this machine just quietly tosses light SMTP traffic all day. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, I am all kindza freaked out right now. Also, f$&# Windows as a Service, just sayin'.
The OS system and kernel can start services in a Disabled state. It is also possible to start a service and then disable it - it will stay running until it's stopped.
hi, I am running 2.7.3 and just for curiosity I unistalled the script but wu is no more there, checked services but all seems to be fine. What can I check further? thanks
Try to run this in a shell with Admin rights: Code: reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer /v SettingsPageVisibility /f and try again.
Hi Looks like some updates sneaked past: MS Windows 10 Home Single Language Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features > Installed Updates Name Program Version Publisher Installed On Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB4592438) Microsoft Windows Microsoft Corporation 18/12/2020 Update for Microsoft Windows (KB4584229) Microsoft Windows Microsoft Corporation 18/12/2020 Update for Microsoft Windows (KB4580419) Microsoft Windows Microsoft Corporation 18/12/2020 Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB4593175) Microsoft Windows Microsoft Corporation 17/12/2020 Security Update for Adobe Flash Player Microsoft Windows Microsoft Corporation 17/12/2020 But Windows Update Service is disabled. That's why Wub fix and script 2.7.3 RC have been posted, sadly not finalized yet. https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...-10-update-control.72203/page-88#post-1632450 Script 2.7.3 blocks the usosvc now.
Sorry I should mention I am on 2004. Not my main rig. This PC is used for some maintenance tasks. Other PCs with Win Pro 2004 not experiencing any sneaky updates (yet!)...
The normal state is un-rem'd. I rem-ed it by mistake is all. When I'm working on the script I don't want the uninstaller to delete the files I'm working on.
I hope that the silence here is because both v2.7.2 and v2.7.3 RC1 are functioning well and no changes are required. That being said, I continue to use v2.7.3 RC1 without any issues whatsoever, but was just curious, is a final of v2.7.3 going to be produced?
