*facepalm* The numbers of the exefile did not look familiar with my BIOS version..hence I jumped to conclusions...I should go slower and stop doing three things at a time. sorry for the confusion.
If you aren't able to flash you may wait for phrunts reply to me. He is sending to me a DOS flashtool that worked already! This could take some day(s).....
Hopefully I'll have the tool in a few hours, just waiting on an email back with a copy of it although the person with it is still asleep at the moment
Mission Accomplished! I just flashed the modded BIOS with "AFUWIN /P /N /E" as settings and it worked fine. It shows now as SonyIO_V2.1 in SLIC Dumptool so it should be good to go. Thanks for all the help guys. Much appreciated.

So if I copy the extracted files from the temp folder, and then hexedit the SLIC part in the *.ROM file with the Sony 2.1 SLIC, can I use the AFUWIN *.ROM /P /N /E command directly in windows by running the flash.bat file? Doesn't the afuwin file check the checksum of the rom file?

Hello, Sorry for gravedigging the forum, but I have that VGN-FW31ZJ and would like to allow SLIC 2.1. Unfortunately, all the links for the modded BIOS are dead. Can anyone be so kind as to reupload it? Meanwhile I'm trying to figure out how this all works, but hexediting BIOSes blindly is scary, and I don't want to end with an expensive brick. By the way, MMTool can not open the .ROM file, what tool did you guys use? I don't find the AMI APTIO tool, if there is one. I understand that it is all a matter of replacing the SLIC 2.0 chain with the 2.1 chain. About the SLIC 2.0, what is the one for SONY, so I know what to look for? Sorry for being a newbie, but I have been reading this forum all day, and I did not find answers to my questions. Thanks in advance!
