    Hi all.

Been doing a few BIOS flashings lately, including modding a BIOS my self. Get me BISO modder..:)

So i recon i will have a go at my own laptop, Sony Vaio VGN NR38E.
I have looked high and low trying to find a BIOS update with no luck at all.
So i though i would extract the existing BIOS.
But with what tool. Could not even find which flash tool to use on this Sony lappy.

Plus once i have the BIOS file, which modding tool to use.

i have all of the BIOS flashing tools,AMI Award and the Phoenix one.

Would the Phoenix be the tool of choice ?
i have downloded the RW tool and save a txt file. i think this is right.

Any tips, help and advice in modding my Sony's BIOS to hold SLIC2.1

    Cheers..

With Sony it is not easy. You can extract BIOS itself with "BIOS extraction toolkit". But to flash Sony BIOS the platform and part information must be present at the end of WPH file. This info is not stored in BIOS. The only option I see here is to try to append this information from the similar BIOS update, but that's also a good way to screw it :) Can you post your BIOS version?

Sounds complited doing this Sony lappy.

    Thanks for the reply.

After pressing F2 at boot. Plus running the Universal BIOS extractor i get the BIOS R2060J9.

Been using PLASH16 to try and backup the BIOS. No luck at all.

Just been messing with the phoenix bios tool.

Downloded from these forums SLIC.BINS. In there are many different bins and certs including Sony ones.

I used the Universal BIOS Extractor to dump my BIOS. The name matches that from the BIOS screen at boot.

I ran the Phoenix tool. used my extracted BIOS.
Used the SLIC.bin, the cert and used the info rom this folder for the RW file.
Pressed GO and the tool did its job and now i have a R2060J9_SLIC.rom file.

I am a bit nervous for some reason is trying to flash the Sony with this .rom file.

Should i be using the RW file i made my self ?

Gunna run the tool again with my RW file and see what happens.

    Right..

Used SLIC Dump tool to save my BIN,Cert and key.
Used Universal BIOS Extractor to dump my BIOS
    I ran the Phoenix Tool.
    used my BIOS
    Used my SLIC.bin file
    Used my RW file
    Used my Cert

The Phoenix tool gave no errors. all things matched.

I ended up with a rom file "r2060j9_SLIC.rom"

Silly question. Does this mean i now have a BIOS.rom file with Sony SLIC2.1 added...

urrrrrrrrrrrrrr dare i flash my own laptop....
