Doctors have been giving themselves C-vit intravenously, for instance, when breaking their bones etc. A very old story...

Exercising heavily plus any kind of really stressful situation, also.

    And so on...

    The Dementia Plague

Evelyn C. Granieri is that rarest of 21st-century doctors: she still makes house calls. On a warm Thursday morning toward the end of August, the New York–based geriatrician, outfitted in a tailored white suit and high heels, rang a doorbell at a seven-story red-brick apartment building in the Riverdale section of the Bronx and was buzzed in.... more

ATTENTION parents - and mothers (to be) in particular - but this is affecting us all!!!!

Sadly, I can't find the follow-up to this which has a lot more evidence of the thesis presented! Worryingly, it is from various teams around the world who set out to disprove it!

Women love it in all kinds of cosmetics, we eat and drink it, since it's in plastics and detergents etc. etc. etc.

Man-made oestrogen-like compounds, a sea of which we live in!!! Infertility, hermaphroditic phenomena on the rise, cancer.....

Our "chemical industry" - for many decades now!!! - has created a monster and we are silently taking it all in... literally.... In some countries we are talking of 50% reduction in male fertility in 50 years(!), since WW II. Reduction in sperm motility and everything related, except the rise in cancer and such phenomena...

This is a "must see" and then a "must protest and take action", whichever action we can take - privately and publicly, individually and collectively. In England people (generally) could start rinsing their washed dishes and so on...

But it all starts with knowledge, since knowledge liberates, ergo see this first...

And good luck to us all!

P.S. Paracetamol, ibuprofen, codeine etc. - especially in pregnancy - can have such effect on us, also! See these links:

    FINALLY!!!!!

The French Gov is banning BPA and so forth (I think :D ):

"French national daily Le Monde carries an article on the French ban of BPA.

The article, which is written by well-known journalist Stéphane Foucart,
states that France’s ban brings the country at the forefront of the EU
although there are still unsolved problems, e.g. how to adjust the
French ban of BPA (including import, export and putting on the market)
with the European free movement of goods, which is one of the freedoms of the single market.

Foucart says that it is hard to understand why EFSA and the FDA are still relativizing the danger of BPA although the Endocrine Society and most scientists do not stop to warn that BPA is an endocrine disruptor.

The article carries on and says that France made a “bet”; if Europe follows the French ban, France will have made the right decision based on science and in order to protect consumer interests. However, if the rest of the EU will decide not to follow, France will be isolated and its economy will suffer."

Well, I am not sure... How can one "lose" if your population is healthier, short, medium or long term???!!!???

    Upwards and onwards!!! :)

I warned my wife before we started thinking about kids that I want plastics out of the kitchen and alike, going back to wood, glass, porcelain, metal etc. Well, look at this:

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/06/20/bpa-free-plastic-still-toxic.aspx - something like avoiding the old fridge/freezer bad chemicals with even worse ones put into them instead... Doesn't "industry" and their "scientists" ever learn?

    And what of state/Govs?

"... Under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), the U.S. law that regulates chemicals in commerce, it's entirely permissible to launch a new material into high-volume production without disclosing its precise chemical identity or any information about its toxicity. This makes it impossible for the public to assess product safety independently of manufacturer claims. And currently, despite EPA and FDA policies that support "safe" alternatives to a chemical of concern like BPA, neither federal agency conducts safety testing of new materials destined for consumer products before they come on the market."

Do they ever do the right thing from the start or... WTF?!?!?!?!?

Sometimes I really do despair... :(

If dark matter is really axions, we could find out soon

From observations of the Milky Way galaxy, we’ve learned that in any given cubic meter of space, even the particular cubic meter that snugly fits your seated form as you read this article, there’s a small amount of matter—only about 50 proton masses worth—passing through in any given moment. But unlike the particles that make up your seated form, this matter doesn’t interact. It doesn’t reflect light, it isn’t repelled by solid objects, it passes right through walls. This mysterious substance is known as dark matter.

Since there’s so little of it in each cubic meter, you would never notice its presence. But over the vast distances of space, there’s a lot of cubic meters, and all that dark matter adds up. It’s only when you zoom out and look at the big picture that dark matter’s gravitational influence becomes apparent. It’s the main source of gravity holding every galaxy together; it binds galaxies to one another in clusters; and it warps space around galaxy clusters, creating a lensing effect... more

Team discovers evolutionary mechanism that allows bacteria to resist antibiotics

In research published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, assistant professor of biochemistry and molecular biology at Saint Louis University Mee-Ngan F. Yap, Ph.D., discovered new information about how antibiotics like azithromycin stop staph infections, and why staph sometimes becomes resistant to drugs.

Her evidence suggests a universal, evolutionary mechanism by which the bacteriaeludes this kind of drug, offering scientists a way to improve the effectiveness of antibiotics to which bacteria have become resistant.
Staphylococcus aureus (familiar to many as the common and sometimes difficult to treat staph infection) is a strain of bacteria that frequently has become resistant to antibiotics, a development that has been challenging for doctors and dangerous for patients with severe infections.
Yap and her research team studied staph that had been treated with the antibiotic azithromycin and learned two things: One, it turns out that the antibiotic isn't as effective as was previously thought. And two, the process that the bacteria use to evade the antibiotic appears to be an evolutionary mechanism that the bacteria developed in order to delay genetic replication when beneficial.
The team studied the way antibiotics work within the ribosome, the site where bacteria translates the genetic codes into protein. When the bacteria encounter a potential problem in copying its genetic material, as posed by an antibiotic, it has a mechanism to thwart antibiotic inhibition by means of "ribosome stalling" that is mediated by special upstream peptide elements.
As the bacteria's ribosome copies the strings of genetic code, "ribosome stalling" at upstream elements often promotes the rearrangement of messenger RNA and activates downstream translation of the resistance gene.
Many resistant pathogens exploit this mechanism to up-regulate antibiotic resistance genes, and so survive even in the presence of antibiotics. In effect, the delay allows the bacteria to prepare a defense against the antibiotic further down the line of genetic code.
Yap found that the azithromycin-bound ribosomes do not simply stall at random residues, but only at specific sites. Intriguingly these residues seem to be the preferred stalling site in the "ribosome stalling" peptide elements that stop genetic activity.
"Here we describe, to our knowledge, the first genome-wide snapshot of ribosome distribution along messenger RNAs in Staphylococcus aureus," Yap said. "By globally mapping the position of stalled ribosomes in azithromycin-treated staph, we identified the proteins affected by this antibiotic.
"Our results reveal a striking similarity of stalling motifs that strongly suggests a universal stalling mechanism," Yap said. "We have identified what appears to be an evolutionary mechanism developed by bacteria to counteract the type of antibioticsthat includes azithromycin, called macrolides."
Yap hopes this new understanding of how antibiotic resistance occurs will offer opportunities to improve existing drugs' effectiveness and give doctors more tools to help patients with severe infections.

Just yesterday, members of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists moved the iconic Doomsday Clock they have been maintaining since 1947 to just 3 minutes to midnight. What this means is that humanity and the planet are pretty darn close to a global catastrophe.
For those unaware, this so-called Doomsday Clock was set up to warn people about how close the world was to a disaster that could end civilization as we know it. The Clock was last moved in 2012, when it was fixed at 5 minutes to midnight.

Members of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists explain that the reason why they pushed the clock 2 minutes forward is because, despite warnings, climate change and global warming are yet to be properly addressed. Besides, nuclear arsenals haven't been reduced.

“In 2015, Unchecked climate change, global nuclear weapons modernizations, and outsized nuclear weapons arsenals pose extraordinary and undeniable threats to the continued existence of humanity,” the scientists argue.

Mind you, the fact that the Doomsday Clock now shows 3 minutes to midnight does not mean that the end of the world is upon us and there is nothing we can do about it. It just means that we are running out of time to avoid a global catastrophe in the making.

Even though there is nothing scientific about how to set this clock, I agree with it to push it forward 2 minutes.....
I just wonder why you sid_16 don't demand clear scientific evidences that justify those 2 minutes. :D :)

People who are aware of what is happening know that humans actually have only one choice: Evolve or die.

Contrary to those who recognize those situations at their events (environmental, climate, cultural fights, wars, religion.....) others recognize the general principle as a general disease of humankind inside of themselves....they also recognize that recent events are a must to break down ego...but with that all I bother people at the other threads...:p

I find the clock as silly as the US threat level indicator. Humans can be very unpredictable, so as long as you have people around like North Korea, Taliban and other terrorists and the USA. Then the world will always be unstable. Environmental variables don't happen over night, but war sure can or a big asteroid. :D

I didn't even know that such a clock exists. There is only a purpose for those who have set the clock. Others know 'it' already or remain unaware........maybe it would have been better to start at eleven o clock to have more 'time' to represent/illustrate the degree of increase.:D

A Brain-Computer Interface That Works Wirelessly

A few paralyzed patients could soon be using a wireless brain-computer interface able to stream their thought commands as quickly as a home Internet connection.

After more than a decade of engineering work, researchers at Brown University and a Utah company, Blackrock Microsystems, have commercialized a wireless device that can be attached to a person’s skull and transmit via radio thought commands collected from a brain implant. Blackrock says it will seek clearance for the system from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, so that the mental remote control can be tested in volunteers, possibly as soon as this year... more

.....a wireless brain-computer interface able to stream their thought commands as quickly as a home Internet connection.

The post's headline sounds more like science fiction!

OK the interface is wireless now. But what can we know when reading the obtained data? Besides of that the sensors have to be somewhere anyway.
To me it sounds like one taps conducting paths of a CPU and expects to read out the internal commands of the CPU. This cannot work!
'Thoughts' are much more than bioelectric signals. Expect nothing more that one can do with wires, it's far away from transmitting thoughts /thought commands.

One needs to find and record a specific and reproducible pattern of electric signals.

not so sure, yen.. i had a limited paralysis once, it was just some stupid nerve that failed to transmit electric signals from the old brain.. i was lucky, and it reconnected, but from my limited experience, it was just stupid electronics, and i think we can do it.. even if this is a lot more complicated, maybe.

It is just bio electrical signals, but Yen is over complicating the whole issue.
The objective is not empathy and feelings and what not. It's simply giving the people an opportunity to do something that they can't do normally.
