Okay...thanks! - Had to read it twice but I think I understood. Now I need to know how the process is done filebased. Is it a Service?
Much thanks cody my knowledge is not precise concerning the Activation of KMS. If you wish to write up a section detailing it further I'll put it in (nudge nudge wink wink). I feel that you didn't quite guess what the values were as if I remember correctly in my memory that the backup licensing for office 2010 was stored in a directory on the C drive . On the MSOcache in the branding.xml? I believe you mean the SKU ACID? Just curious.
You should explain what a SLIC is. (Not going into details, though). SLIC is short for Software License Internal Code. It is a special licensing code that is programmed into BIOS / UEFI to license the machine. It is found as an ACPI table (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface table) in the ACPI module of the BIOS / EFI. (ACPI-BIOS) At boot it will be mapped as SLIC table (Microsoft Software Licensing Table) into physical memory. It is one of tree parts that must be present to SLP 2.x activate the machine. And when you name new technical terms you should explain them as well. BIOS / EFI / SLP ....Basic Input Output System, Extensible Firmware Interface, Software License Preinstalled.
Go on... do the "Kernel Licensing" part. For my understanding this is finaly the interessting part at all as this is working while runtime and will basicly be my beloved registry-entry.
I have answered in the thread posted as to the reasoning of not going into the Kernel Licensing. I am trying to define what represents a DMCA / Security Risk for doing various portions of the licensing of the OS at this time. However on the upside we are going to go into the methods more precisely with the information provided by Yen & Cody I will also endeavor to make ti simple as to subjects which are being omitted from this thread. At the present time it is: Kernel Licensing Side note: As I'm a college student my work on this thread will be erratic.
I've been delayed by School Assignments unfortunately as I wanted to respond to this post directly. Perhaps a sort of Glossary of terms can be generated regarding information in the Guide in order to further the ease of seeing so many technical terms? Would this do the trick? @ Cody I'll endeavor to add more to the KMS activation because you represent a very good source for information on it. See this is what I get for looking at the whole picture haha
Been hearing about KMS solution newly available for Windows 8.1. 9.0.2.20131024 beta reportedly is able to activate it. Well update when its tried and true on forum side.
Regards does this work with Server 2012 R2 as well? I need to pass this on to the custom server iso guys who do not reside here
Good thread, Smorgan. Windows 2000 doesn't use any activation solution. It's free product. It's only necessary (but optional) to register Windows online.
