Hi everyone, I have a big problem here.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L670-10P and when I was updating the BIOS, the computer simply shut down for some reason. Now after turning it on, it just turns off after 1 or 2 seconds, because the BIOS is corrupted. If I press the magical Fn+B combination while turning it on and if I have a USB stick connected, I can see it tries to read from it, the only problem is, how I should name the bios file for the recovery mechanism to detect it.

I tried to use this Andy Tool here and it is supposed to give me some recovery name, but all it gives me is some SLIC 2.1 info and nothing about the recovery name. After opening the BIOS image, the window pops up saying "Pubkey and marker (2.1) (TOSCPLTOSCPL00) (x1)". When I press OK, in the STATUS field it says "EFI / Insyde BIOS".

At the end of log file that the program generates it says:
    Finished Extracting
    Tiano module compression method used
    EFI / Insyde BIOS
Pubkey and Marker found in PADDING_1670.ROM at DA66
'SLIC' string found in A5288050-8828-46C4-8F72-1CD735A56520_1438.ROM at 4D0
    OEM/Table IDs identified are:
    1. TOSCPLTOSCPL00
    Pubkey and marker (2.1) (TOSCPLTOSCPL00) (x1)

Can you guys help me please? How can I recover my laptop? Is there any chance?

    @andyp

Sorry for late reply; 2.56 works perfectly for extracting Dell UEFIs.

    Hi andyp,

Thanks again for creating such an awesome tool!

One glitch I thought worth mentioning:
When trying to use the tool on an HDTV set as a monitor, the main screen of the tool is too tall to show on the screen, so the bottom gets chopped off. Note that in order to use an HDTV as a monitor that the text has to be enlarged to at least 150% or it's unreadable from any distance-- this may be a factor in the issue. The tool's screen isn't built with a provision to scroll, so it becomes unusable in this environment.

My workaround is to use it on a regular PC monitor or a laptop, but it would be nice if the logic to handle scrolling was built in -- I think it's done using standard API function calls. Maybe you could look into adding the window scrolling for the next version?

    Thanks again!

Successfully used latest version of Andy's tool (v2.56) to generate updated version 2.4.0 bios for Dell XPS 210. Used defaults, and the Dell SLIC included with the tool. (Did not need RW Everything Report.)

Bios successfully installed and tested on Dell XPS 210!

    Thanks again AndyP!

@Tito - How do you re-flash the modified Dell UEFI? I'm still getting my feet wet with Dell UEFI and don't know what to do with the modified PFS.HDR file since the old Dell recovery (i.e. END key) does not work anymore.

Sorry, my purpose was to detect the marker in the bios, not flashing it. I have seen your quest to find a way to flash modified/extracted Dell UEFI HDR, but we are on the same point.
