simplified Chinese windows 7 untimate oem i changed the locale to english, and it works sry for replying so late
I was doing this this week as well with ATI cards (unrelated, on my own), I found RBE (Radeon bios editor) works great on newer ATI bioses, same sort of methods as described before but it is automated instead of hex editing, I think the 2xxx or newer series are required, I also edited speeds on older X1XXX cards (X1400, X1300) using an older app called RaBit, but unfortunatly the ati driver overrides the values so once windows loads the clocks are set back, but the values hold true for the newer cards on a seperate not, I also edited the bios build date on my bios (made it built after SLIC 2.1 was introduced!)
I've had an interest in the bios build dates as I do see that as a possible way MS could detect bios mods but in saying that I've seen laptops with bios build dates of 2007 and a slic 2.1 in them from factory as they seem to inject the slic into the bios. This seems to stand true for ASUS, we often get notebooks come back to the service center where they've replaced the mainboard in the notebook due to a fault and forgotten to slic the bios so the notebook deactivates and we have to send it back to ASUS again to resolve it (even though obviously I could resolve it, it's just not proper)
I agree, if SLIC 2.1 specifications were not out when the bios was built, it couldn't possible be genuine, right? In my Dell the bios build date is very close to the end of the 01_0 rom, a simple change to the year makes the slic emtry plausable, other changes I made such as the bios version number likely weren't necessary but I could see some getting deactivated, perhaps with the introduction of a service pack.... of course if Andy's tools were able to update the bios date.... well, I would feel more comfortable installing SP1... I guess my post is a bit misleading, I was able to edit the build date by entering the dump folder (after choosing advanced -> allow modification of other modules) and edit the date before rebuilding the bios, so in a way it was thanks to Andy's tool it was possible, I would just like Andy to consider it as a specific option, perhaps in the advanced mode... Oh, sorry. I see you are saying that ASUS will replace a m/b, use a bios from 2007 and add slic! well if that is the case then either there could potentially be lots of upset customers, or MS will not be able to go that route... Hmmm, oh well I still feel safer having a newer build date..
Guys help me figure out something. I modded a phoenix bios with andy's tool (ssv method) adding FSC slic for win7. The bios did not have a slic originally and had Fujitsu and FSC as valid oem slp strings. This particular computer (2005 purchase) had come with a xp restore cd which I have used dozens of times in the past to reinstall xp. Anyways, after modding the bios and installing win7, I was living happily ever after till for some reason XP needed to be reinstalled. But this time the install refused to auto-activate. My guess is I screwed up the slp strings somehow but how? Anyway then i used Yen's OEMBIOS changer to swap out the existing oembios files with FSC files downloaded from oembios.net. After that windows was activated again! Problem is solved but wonder what happened.
Yuhuuuuuu, good news, hey tom check this out, I'll mods ur bios soon, congratulations andyp, great work!!!
New version 1.56 Make sure manufacturer is selected as acer Select dynamic and ACER 2.1 SLIC If you really want it to do nothing other than change the 1 byte select no slic as an advanced option (as it already has a complete SLIC 2.1 in it) Andy
Andy, Have ever been tired of doing same thing again and again? Little variations, but same thing in general anyway… I’m getting sick, when I look at code 24x7. From the other hand, when I go on vacation for a week or so, I really want to code something… I guess I have developed some sort of medical condition already, right? I need a treatment from a "code dependency"…
It's addictive isn't it........ Every time I think the tools are settled......... something else comes along!! Andy
I'm no coder, but modding bioses is addictive as well. When I started to mod bioses, I thought after half a year it will be finished.... Do you really suffer from? I don't...
