Yes, that should work for the BBL.

BTW, I found where the Execute-Disable Bit defaults are in the BIOS. It's in the TEST11 BIOS in my archive in the old post.

This will probably be my last update until I can look at the AHCI thing.

 

I'm impressed - all confirmed:

✓ Execute-Disable Bit now defaulted to ENABLED in BIOS after BIOS update -> Mac OS sleep working OOTB!
✓ Sound also working OOTB in Mac OS w/o any DSDT edits!
✓ BIOS update with /BBL switch went through fine.

How do you know all this neat stuff ?

AHCI: that would be awesome because
1. compatibility increase: also newer SSDs should be able to be used (right now only older ones with full IDE compatibility mode work like the used Samsung I had to purchase accdg. to the recommendation)
2. most likely speed increase even with these Toshi's SATA 1 bus because SSDs were simply not made for IDE compatibility mode = throttling down

If I don't hear back from you until next year: keep it low key = low risk to stay alive & kicking

 

That’s great to hear. I’m a software guy who dabbles in hardware when required. Also I’ve read lots of tutorials by others who know a lot of low level stuff.

Ok, so I found the Intel ICH7 datasheet and it states how to enable AHCI but there is one huge gotcha. If you enable AHCI on the SATA controller, you lose PATA support which means no optical drive. The work around would be to use an external USB optical drive when necessary. Still interested to do it?

I’m hoping to get my Toshiba P10x this week and can try some tests after Christmas.

AHCI: that's great research progress! An optical drive has become close to meaningless these days. Maybe there is a way to introduce a SATA Mode toggle menu in BIOS/Advanced so it's possible to choose between AHCI and IDE compatibility. And even if not, it's easy to either apply the legacy PATA BIOS if needed, or as you say use an external optical drive if needed frequently. (and maybe there is even a AHCI optical drive with that form factor).

Great your old Toshiba is back in your possession and your January fingers are itching

Schematic: very neat, I never saw that. PATA: OK & who cares.

Mac OS 10.7.5 Lion (above doesn't make sense/ hardly or not at all works): let me know if you need a link, even though I don't think it's worth your time. I still had the old install so did not have to input any time.

Hackintosh uses its own bootloaders, the most current one being Clover, v. r5122 of which from Sept. 2020 also works on my P100 with OS X Lion.

Reconfigure SATA to register as/with AHCI: yes, thanks for the links, but this only works once AHCI is possible in the BIOS and enabled in BIOS settings, right?

So then, smoothly slide into 2021, and talk to you next year

 

oh, seems we cross-posted. I'm still at my parents and due to lockdown here most likely until a few days into January so it looks like 1st week of January when I can send you the CMOS info.

 

Crap...I bricked my parent's Toshiba P105. Phoenix Crisis recovery doesn't seem to work...tried Fn+F, Fn+B, Fn+R, Fn+Esc, Win+F, Win+B, Win+R, Win+Esc.

Gonna have to shell out $20 to get a replacement motherboard. I'm now debating whether to even do this anymore.

 

oh man, that sounds very annoying. Have you only tried a USB flash drive, or also a external USB floppy disk drive?

 

I tried both a USB floppy and 2GB USB flash drive.

Unfortunately Toshiba used a TSOP40 flash chip and that has to be desoldered (hot air station), re-programmed and then re-soldered. I was hoping that they used something different that could be re-programmed with a test clip.

Ironically it was cheaper to get a replacement motherboard than just a pre-programmed replacement BIOS chip (that I need to solder on).

I may invest in a chip programmer but that’s about $75 worth of equipment for such an old laptop.

Can you still do 2 things for me?

1. Post a copy of your CMOS settings (from SYMCMOS).
2. Open the RAM cover on your laptop and send me the motherboard model number. It should start with “A0000...”.

 

wow - one never knows until one actually ventures ahead. I bet you wished you had discovered the incompatible TSOP40 flash chip before. Glad you were able to order a cheap replacement motherboard. Most likely used so fingers crossed it's good once it has arrived and you installed it. One for a dedicated Nvidia?

BTW, what did you actually do to brick it? Flash it with a BIOS with a ROM to include ACPI, or something else?

I'm still up north and it will take me few days to be back home down south and settle back in. Looks like coming week-end when I can send you the CMOS and board info.

Nah, it appears to just be Intel graphics. But the P100 board does have a DVI port whereas my bricked P105 only had VGA & TV-out. Kind of weird if you ask me though...guess Toshiba made cost-cutting measures when they released the P105.

I bricked it by attempting to change some assembly code.

No rush on the info. I'm still waiting for my replacement board to actually ship.

out of curiosity I just checked the price for the T7600 2.3 GHz I have - way more expensive $30 + shipping and only available from CN/ HKG. Also 34W and I guess not too much of a performance difference to the 2.16 GHz T7400.
